t begins in 2313 and the human race is, for the most part, united under a single central government and spread out over dozens of planets spread out over the Orion Arm

A civilian research expedition under the auspice of the navy is investigating the abandoned ruins of an alien civilization, on a planet far from human controlled space

There is a pantheon of vastly powerful beings [think Greek mythology] that oversee the universe, though they rarely directly intervene

The main protagonist of the story is a character called Julius. He is a soldier in the military, in a unit similar to the US rangers. Early on in the story, he and his unit are on a navy ship that responds to a distress call from another ship. When they arrive, it turns out to be a spy ship that crashed on an unchartered planet.

When they investigate the ship, one of Julius squadmates is seriously injured and they return to the ship. The ships doctor cant make sense of what is wrong with him, and they travel to the closest populated planet for better medical care

That night, the planet is attacked by an alien race. Very generally, the aliens are the army of the main antagonist, who is an immensely powerful being. I dont want to give his motives and ambitions away, but the gist of his goal is revenge against the gods and he is doing whatever it takes to lure them into direct confrontation.

Once the humans are drawn into a full shooting war with this alien race, the story will focus primarily on the perspectives of Julius, and a second character Jacek, who is one of the powerful beings who combats the antagonist. There are also a lot of smaller subplots and character arcs that will touch on various human and non-human characters throughout the story, and weave all of them together at different points.

Basically if I had to sum it up in one sentence, it would be Halo meets Lord of the Rings.

I have a feeling it might come across as cheesy, which I can understand. I have many more details for it than I listed here, which give the story a very somber and serious tone and make it feel much more immersive, and pull it away a little from typical tropes such as marines in space and all that.

So thats basically a wicked condensed version of it, minus some major details that I left out because I dont want to spoil anything other than the overall storyline.
