December 7th. They didn't give a release date for quite a while, but now they have.

For those that don't know, it's got quite a few things that weren't in the 7th gen compilation, Ultimate Mega Drive Collection, such as Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, Wonderboy III: Monster Lair and Wonderboy V: Monster World. There's also dozens of other things, like Sonic 1 and 2, and Vectorman 1 and 2. Looks like an excellent package, with a lot of fun things to play.

The emulation on this collection is not very good, just so you guys know. MyLifeInGaming did an episode on it.

I preordered the title and I was actually really disappointed in it. Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection was way better in terms of emulation, achievements and content provided. You had the Genesis games on top of Arcade ports and a couple Master System games. This compilation really just falls on it's face hard.

It's 30 in the UK. Not sure for America, but I doubt it's full price.

@happibivouac

happibivouac, I don't understand. What is your problem with it? I watched some of that video you linked to, and I don't get it. There's over 50 games on this. So what if they're just Mega Drive games? It's a Mega Drive collection. I played the various arcade / Master System games on the other compilation you mentioned, and they were mostly boring. Just about the only really good one was Space Harrier. Also, what do Achievements and Trophies matter? I remember the various Achievements in the 360 version of that other compilation, and they were so easy, there wasn't that much point to them.

Are you trying to say there is a serious problem with emulation, and if so, what? That's the thing that might stop me from getting the compilation. I don't imagine that's very much the case, though, since it probably isn't hard to port 20+ year old games, the XBone, PS4 and Switch could run any of those games extremely easily. Are there games that run badly?

I told you what my problem with it is. You outlined those points in your rebuttal. That said, I get that it's a Mega Drive compilation, but the additional perks of having the Arcade/Master System inclusions are being able to have access to the first Phantasy Star and arcade versions of Altered Beast and Space Harrier. Why wouldn't you want that? These arcade versions are technically superior to the Genesis versions due to hardware limitations. That sucks you found them boring, but I find them to be fun and a nice addition.

Achievements and trophies matter on a per gamer basis. In this case, I find them to be important. For other people who also find them to be important, this could be a crucial selling point. Sure, a lot of them were easy, but every game had achievements.

There is a problem in the emulation for this compilation that includes frame rate drops and some games sound not being reproduced well. I wouldn't necessarily shrug off porting these games as being "easy", as pointed out in the video linked, a lot of these games have struggled with being emulated properly in previous ports.

If you don't care about the points I've made, cool. Get it. It's nice to have the collection with you on the go and all. I was just tossing out there for the potential people that would care about the same things I do to be weary of it.

@kingdrake2

Gunstar Heroes is a really good game, isn't it? The graphics were way ahead of their time, at least, for the Mega Drive. Lots of great bosses, and quite a few great levels in general. I've only ever beaten that game in Normal Mode, never Master Mode. Pretty much always died on Smash Daisuke (the M Bison lookalike).

Also, Alien Soldier is meant to be a pretty similar game, so hopefully it will be very good. I've never played it before.
