Well theres a trick to easier XP and AP...once you leave the golden saucer prison you can backtrack to junon and inside theres a place where you can fight fairly tough enemies called slaloms. in groups of 3 they give 2,100 XP and 210 AP(420 with double AP weapons which i was using).

so since I had it at level 3 already it only took me like 1.5 hours but I was mainly grinding for levels so I can just OP everybody for the forseeable future.

I actually spent the time to split, uh either the KOTR or the mime materia, and used them to take down Emerald Weapon. Maybe that's why I don't like grinding anymore.
