I'm actually thrilled diablo fans stuck it to blizzard during the q&a.

Tbh I'd have gone further.

"So, seeing as this is a mobile game, how much will I have to spend to get enough monopoly money to pull 3 random common gloves?"

Like, seriously. How did they THINK this would go down?

They probably looked at the money mobile games made, and figured that's what people wanted. The problem is A. The people at the conference was not a core mobile demographic, and B. Most "hardcore" gamers who even play mobile games play them casually and don't take them seriously.

Idk, I refuse to believe that blizzard is so out of touch with its fanbase that it believes the DIABLO audience, of all groups, would be on board with a f2p, micro transaction laden mobile cash in.

This is the same group that absolutely eviscerated them over the Auction house. And that shit's tame compared to what mobile games pull

I am still bitter about Generals 2 and now EA coming out with a C&C mobile game that doesn't look like a C&C.

The are though and the events since the release of D3 have shown that they are. They went from a RMAH to removing trading all together. From a ver hard game that required grinding to an arcady game that requires no thought or planning. They did a terrible job of providing the hardcore fan base (D2 no lifers) with a legitimate sequel and instead turned the franchise into a mass seller made for casuals. The mobile version is just the 2018 example of that.

I mean, in the same way that arcade games are for the hardcore because they have hardcore modes...

Having difficulty settings is a pretty silly deciding factor here. People take diablo too seriously, I'm guessing because it was several people's first online rpg. I spent hundreds of hours in Diablo as a kid, but in no way was that anything other than a casual game. Same way people spent hundreds of hours into Diablo 2 as a kid. As an online RPG, if you can pick it up for half an hour and accomplish something, it's pretty casual, as it were.

Anyway, I chalk it up to 90% nostalgia.

Hardcore isn't a difficulty setting. It's a flag on your character.

Here's the thing though, you tried to use biking as an analogy to show how stupid my argument was, but it turns out that competitive and 'hardcore' biking competitions are pretty much universally very long. The tour de france is like a month long of biking. Most bike marathons are at least 6-10 hours of biking.

Nobody is biking to the store or to work and calling themselves hardcore bikers.

Now, getting to your next point. Determining some arbitrary threshold is certainly arbitrary. My 30 minutes wasn't an actual threshold, and you are taking that number too seriously.

Do you know what a Ladder and a Ladder reset is?

You stated what I quoted to discredit all players as casual.

Well at what point does a game stop being casual?

Not quite. You are not allowed to have even a single mistake. That's very different from a difficulty slider, which, by the way, has no upper boundary in Diablo 3.

Yes, like I said, people take Diablo too seriously. I pumped 100's of hours into Diablo as a kid, doesn't mean that it's some super serious competitive game.

There's an air to pretentiousness surrounding Diablo 2 fans, specifically. It's a fun game, it's always had an incredibly low barrier for entry, and just because you spent your childhood pouring hours into it, doesn't make it a super serious game that needs to be cloned from Diablo 2. Diablo 3 was a really good installment in the Diablo series. Kids who started with Diablo 2 don't seem to understand that the root really is arcade action rpg, just like Gauntlet Legends.

I admit, I don't like Diablo 3. Don't sit there and pretend you don't think your opinion is "better" and "Web you should love Diablo 3."
