Example of me singing without music in different languages:

English: https://vocaroo.com/i/s0yqD7OcePBm
Swedish: https://vocaroo.com/i/s18e5V0TqTfa
Finnish: https://vocaroo.com/i/s15lSTZewT9v
Japanese: https://vocaroo.com/i/s1QocucOommU

I know I have improved a bit by just singing, but I don't know anything about it otherwise.

Go on the first week on American Idol so Simon can berate you. It'll make you better in the long run and makes for amusing tv.

Do you speak those languages or did you imitate every syllable like a weeaboo does with their annoying J-Pop?

Just sing whenever youre alone and youll continue to get better and better. Sometimes try to imitate the original singer of the song and sometimes just do your own thing. After like 2 years youll be good (but not great)

this is awful advice.

I have seen zero evidence that Simon Cowell knows anything about music.

anyway, first thing: get a voice teacher. working with someone individually, face to face, is best.

I'll listen to your english recording in a bit and give you a few pointers.

Do it away from other people. Having to listen to people that suck at singing was a major factor in my quitting going to church. I quit attending church way before I stopped believing in God.

I don't know or care who that is. should I? does he have anything to say specifically about Simon's musical experience (or lack thereof)?

You shouldn't care. And neither do I. But he made bank going off of my advice.

ok, one thing: work on your consonants. you leave the T off the end of a lot of words.

any dolt with half a brain
can see that humankind has gone insane

you have a problem with N too.

your pitch could use some work. that's a big challenge with voice compared to a lot of other instruments you really have to be able to hear all the notes and intervals to properly produce the sound (as opposed to, say, piano, where it can be learned entirely with visual cues).

listen to the song more. learn to play the melody on another instrument; preferably a fixed-pitch instrument like piano or a mallet percussion instrument. it'll cement it more thoroughly in your head.

pay extra close attention to the ends of words your pitch tends to falter in long notes.

practice with a recording, and try to match it exactly. record yourself with the recording. record yourself singing with an accompanist or a karaoke track or something.

check out Aimee Nolte's youtube channel. she's a great singer and has some good music education stuff.

How do you breathe when you sing? Make sure you aren't breathing with your chest but with your stomach instead, to put it simply what I learned when I was taking vocal classes was that breathing through your chest (basically if your shoulders are moving up and down when you breathe) puts unnecessary stress on your voice and can potentially make your voice a bit more shaky or less powerful than it would be if you were to breath through your stomach (so it's your stomach moving forward and back instead of your shoulders moving up and down when you breathe) and makes it easier/less stressful on your throat to do it like that.

So making sure you do that and also a couple of breathing exercises (can probably search some on youtube) to help you focus your breathing more will help so much.

Also, gotta make sure you are confident with your singing and are using enough air with your words and opening your mouth when speaking so you don't sound muffled/nervous/weak/etc. this is probably one of the bigger things you can do to immediately improve

damn I can't believe this of all things didn't occur to me, but I second everything in this post.

anyway, I highly recommend The Breathing Gym. it's primarily for low brass players, but it's great for singers too. there are condensed versions on youtube.

Yoga can really help.

I also recommend reading Yogi Ramacharaka's "The Science of Breath"
