Why would he know about hypothetical Minecraft DLC but not Piranha Plant?

Can't believe I'm about to defend a leak but I gotta be honest. I think the Piranha Plant was not planned at all. I think it was simply a few people messing around, creating it for fun and Sakurai liked it enough to allow them to truly make it, which is why it isn't finished yet and not part of the fighter pass.

Sure I get that. But surely this info would be more common than Minecraft at this stage. Sakurai says they haven't started on the other DLC yet.

I'm not saying I 100% believe him, but his source seems legit to me. No one just guesses Simon, Isabelle, Incineroar, and Ken. Plus he has a record of leaking for other games, so he's not a one and done guesser who got lucky. He clearly has real sources.

Incineroar and Ken showed up on boxart didn't it?

So that just leaves Isabelle and Simon Belmont. Isabelle isn't that much of a crazy prediction.

No, they didn't. People said that because Vergeben said only two characters were left in the base game, Ken and Incineroar, then the Box Theory came out where two spots were missing on the box.

At this point, people believed Vergeben had a real source and used this as evidence of him being right.

He didn't piggy back any of his picks off someone else.

Only thing unique to him seems to be Minecraft.

- Has a source that was reliable for some things but not others
- Lucky guesses

If there's enough wiggle room like "well he never said that the Minecraft/Square-Enix rep was gonna be in the base game so they could still be DLC!" it's a lot easier for them to keep their credibility regardless of what happens.

Gematsu had a real source, but his information was outdated. It was only after the game was datamined that people found he was 100% right about everything.

Just because some details are off with Vergeben doesn't mean he doesn't have a real legit source. It could be outdated info, a misinterpretation etc.

The fact that he predicted every character except Piranha Plant and K Rool and the fact that he has a long history of predicting things makes me think his source for smash was legit

All of the newcomers were safe picks though.

Splatoon is probably one of Nintendo's biggest games right now so the Inklings were obvious choices.
People wanted Daisy to be her own character instead of a Peach skin for a good while now.
Ridley was always a safe pick despite Sakurai's very flimsy excuse since he's to Samus what Bowser is to Mario.
Simon had a lot of support but I'll be honest with not knowing the specifics of him and Richter since I didn't play any Castlevania.
Chrom was straight up robbed of being in Smash 4 and he had enough support to get a Mii costume in Smash 4.
Dark Samus had a ton of support.
King K. Rool has had a ton of support, to the point that he had a Mii costume in Smash 4.
Isabelle as well had enough support where it was acknowledged as a Mii costume.
Incineroar was probably one of the more popular new pokemon designs since he's a heel wrestler so he was a safe choice.
Ever since they acknowledged Echos and introduced a new one right after, Ken became another obvious choice since he's one of the original echoes!

All of it was correct. The Ridley / E3 timing is also pretty solid. I can buy that he's a safe guess but also knowing he'd specifically be announced at E3 was a huge stretch to fake.

No. He only specifically said the Wii U/3DS roster was returning. The actual reveal was that EVERYONE was returning. There's a key difference with both of those statements despite being technically correct.

Also it turns out that a GameXplain guy was hinting at Ridley all the way back in March. So that info was out in the wild somewhere.

I mean is it? We know Prime 4 is in the making. The Inklings were used to reveal Smash Ultimate. While King K. Rool is the most hyped I've ever been for a new character, he's not the one to use for E3. Ridley is.

The only difference in our information has been them hearing that Steve from Minecraft will be playable and discussions with Cygames were happening to get a Granblue Fantasy character (which seems to be Katalina in particular) into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

While I cannot personally back those two things on my end yet from my personal sources, what we can do is consider adding up what I have heard and put out for SSBU combined with what Hitagi heard and has said, which could point us in a direction that reveals that 3 out of the 5 DLC characters seem to be
The Square Enix character. I can vouch is definitely happening and the first DLC character at that

This comes from Hitagi as I have said. But they seemed confident that the discussions happened on a serious level.
