So I ordered this in September and was charged for it:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DSYB74N/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

However, it just shipped the other day and I was charged for it again.

I contacted Amazon and they said the first one was an authorization charge, but I never got that money back. I was told to contact the bank.

Now I'm looking through my bank account and the first charge isn't showing at all, even though I vividly remember it happening(hell, I kept checking my account at the time, anticipating it).

So I never got the money back for that charge and it's not showing on my account anymore.

Should I still talk to the bank?

Physically go to your bank and have them go through your charges

That's what I'm about to do, but looking at my account on my phone, it seems to be a waste of time.

And it's not so much about it being a waste of time, but moreso that I'm already pissed off and I feel like they're going to piss me off even more.

That is true. There's only an hour left before they close. I might as well head up there and pray I don't bite someone's head off.

Are you sure you are missing the money. I worked for a credit union and there is no way a charge can just disappear after the money is taken out. I have seen a hold on funds disappear after the item was finally charged. Now if the seller charged twice there would be a record of it.

It is not the banks fault but if you did get charged twice the bank can probably help you block the second charge and get your money back. If you are nice to them they will have your back and help you out as much as they can.

Welp, it went about as well as I expected. If not a little better, because I managed to keep the conversation calm.

But yeah, I'm out $250.

On the plus side, it gave me an excuse to stop by the liquor store that's just so conveniently in the same plaza

Well, the first charge according to them was just a hold which makes perfect sense.

Except for the fact that I swear that money never went back to my balance.

But whatever. They only have what's in their systems, and I can't see anything damning on my end. So it's just a lost cause now.

And I get paid tomorrow, at least.

In other words, this is what happened.

In their world:

Company puts a hold on my account for the purchase. My balance reflects this.

Hold ends, and my balance goes back to what it was.

Fast forward, now I'm genuinely being charged for the guitar.

HOWEVER, from what I can vividly recall:

Company puts a hold on ym account for the purchase. My balance reflects this, and never goes back to what it was previosly after the hold apparently ended.

Fast forward, now I'm being charged twice.

That's interesting. I know of places putting a hold on funds until the item is shipped. The balance and actual available funds would be off by the amount and once the hold expires and funds are released then balance and actual funds should be equal.
