I never really cared for this line of reasoning, actually. What if there are no politicians who have the platform that you hold? Why would you vote for anyone then? For instance, if making crocs illegal was your life goal, and that's politically all that matters to you, and no candidate is campaigning on making crocs illegal, then why vote? And you could then bitch and moan about how no candidate that falls in line with your beliefs exists.

Because that's a hypothetical situation that doesn't exist in reality.

Reality is that there's dozens of important issues and even if none of them affect you personally they will be affecting the people around you.

Voting really isn't that impactful(I mean, unless you do it A LOT, like us Soros-financed supervoters).
Particularly when you account for crap like gerrymandering. If you care, there are much more important things you can do than show up and fill out a ballot.
I mean, you should still do that, but, just saying.

Because that's a hypothetical situation that doesn't exist in reality.

Reality is that there's dozens of important issues and even if none of them affect you personally they will be affecting the people around you.

It's an absurd example but there are more realistic versions of it.

Nobody is campaigning to end the war on drugs and make weed legal. Nobody is going on about prison reform and eliminating for profit prisons. Stuff like that is important to me but nobody cares about it.

And what about people around me? 50% of the population will be happy with who's elected, and 50% will be mad. It'll turn out that way whichever way I vote.

Bitching about the candidates available to vote for is a perfectly legit thing to bitch about imo.
