Attraction is explicitly about emotion. That means the only thing that matters regarding sexual attraction is how the individual feels about their attraction.

Of course, part of the problem is that we insist on categorizing forms of sexual attraction when it absolutely is not necessary.

Actually, I'm not sure attraction actually counts as an emotion, the more I think about it.

transgender women are obviously not the same as biological women because transgender women used to be men and for the majority of people that's a thing that matters. dunno about labeling it as gay, but it's not really straight either

If you're saying "it's your attraction so you define it", I'd have to disagree. You can of course say that you're attracted, sure, but objectivity isn't exclusive to individuals beyond what they themselves contain. That is to say, if I'm attracted to an orange, it's still an orange.

Obviously sex and biology are more complicated than that, but the concept you're describing sounds an awful lot like when people say "well it's my opinion" when they disagree with an objective fact.

Biological sex is what it is. But that's not the issue we have here. There's a debate going on regarding whether it's right to call transwomen "women" and transmen "men" or not. On the basis of that, people are assigning the labels of heterosexual or homosexual to people, when it's not actually that important and is really more indicative of hangups regarding the first debate.

It would be like if there was an argument over whether X fruit was an apple or an orange, then when someone says they like X fruit, one side claims they like apples and the other oranges. The reality is that the person just likes X fruit and it's not all that important to the overall issue.

That is generally true, and usually you'll see people use "objectively" when they mean "I think it's gross", but that doesn't mean we throw out the concept of objectivity as the baby with the bathwater. To avoid labels for emotional reasons is as bad as those people misusing "objectively".
