It's a defense attorney's job. That's why.

Scumbag or not, they deserve fair treatment because we are better than them. We don't need to sink to their level to have them be punished properly.

Plus if you start allowing people to take things into their hands, when does it stop? Where does it start? When someone kinda maybe suspects said guy is guilty?

I can't speak about lawyers...
But for doctors, it's a little thing called integrity. I know that's not popular in 2018, but some people actually take vows seriously. And the Hippocratic Oath means you put aside personal feelings and do your job.

Everyone has the right to legal representation regardless of our feelings about them and their crimes. Defense lawyers are doing their jobs. People get paid for the jobs they have. It doesn't make them evil. I understand what you're saying, though.
