Dunno how he found out, I think he subscribed to a Pro LinkedIn account and lurked and saw that I have been adding recruiters to my friends list and also I updated my resume.

Anyway, he confronted me about it and he was very upset and asked me why I'm doing this. Plainly told him I need to get paid more and I spoke with him about this plenty of time. Asked me how much I think I should be getting paid and I gave him a number but he says bullshit I get paid a fair amount and my current salary fits the regional standard. Dunno where he's getting his info but I told him sure if you go by the very exclusive job duties of my job title then yes I'm paid fairly but the fact is I do a shit ton more than what my job description says.

Told me he can't help me, if I wanted a raise I need to go talk to the CEO. I told him his job is to fight for more money for me, it's not my job to do that. They can lay me off now. I wanna be on unemployment and play video games for months.

I'm a SYS-Admin. My job duties is strictly server administration, securities, make sure servers are working all the time, up to date, proper resources allocated... things like that. But I manage the shipping department, I do basic Help Desk, I do regular production work, basically a jack of all trades for the company.

lol if you're a sysadmin unless you're completely terrible at interviews or else in a really rural area just hit up recruiters and get a new job of at least an extra 30% increase

companies will always fuck over IT if they can

companies would revert to fax machines and doing bookkeeping in literal books if they were allowed to. the company doesnt want to know nor care about IT and the CEO probably can't tell the difference between a computer and the thing on the desk the pictures show up on. if your boss wont back you up, and you think you have a good chance of gaining employment elsewhere, might be a good idea to start looking now

This is the problem with American workers and why productivity rates are through the roof while worker compensation has stayed the same.
Stop doing things outside your job description's responsibility. You aren't getting paid to do all that other stuff. If they want that stuff done they can hire aomeone else or they can you for that work in addition to your regular responsibilities. Letting you do it for free is exploitation, and you doing it willingly is allowing yourself to be exploited. STOP DOING WORK YOU AREN'T BEING PAID TO DO.

What's funny is that me and boss get along just fine. Been working here for over 6 years. I guess you could say he's my friend. It's real upsetting to know he's acting like this at this point and won't help me get a raise. This just shows you people at work will easily turn on you whenever it benefits them. Never be too loyal to a company that won't invest in you.

At first all those extra duties seem like a huge learning experience. Hell yeah I would love to manage the shipping department. I hold the UPS, FedEx, USPS, Staples and Amazon account. Enjoyed it but after a while it's like... are they gonna pay me more for all this?

If it's a smaller company, you need to wear more hats. If the CEO is just some guy you can talk to, I imagine it is a small company.

A manager needs to keep his best workers. Sometimes that means getting them raises.

Was, but now do IT for an oil refinery. The simplicity and lack of any sort of after hours responsibility is super nice, but.... the simplicity of it is a real drag. Been casually looking elsewhere.

So I just did some digging and Linkedin does tell you the last 5 people who viewed your account with the normal non paid profile. There is a setting to make that show up as anonymous though, so it only says "anonymous user viewed your account"

There is a setting in your account where it won't inform people that you're looking at their profile. You do not need the Pro version for this. I just can't remember exactly where in your account settings it is.

This is your main fuck up. If you're not job hopping every 2 years or so in IT then you're losing out on money. They will never pay you more money. Going to a new job will generally net you a 30% pay bump plus the experience of seeing things done differently with different software.

Also it allows you to dump the whole generalist BS. It's great the first few years of your career but I got sick of it. Went from the same sys admin do everything stuff that you did to strictly managing VMware and storage array. No more being a backup for the helpdesk. Got to become more specialized with less responsibility and paid $25k more.
