Yeah, and worst of all, it's not like it was some sort of secret. The Nazi war crimes were publicly shown for all to see. I mean, maybe in the case of Japan's horrific actions it'd be hard to see, but even that is pretty common knowledge, and it's pretty much impossible to understand what fascism is without understanding the undeniable hand that the Nazis had in its proliferation.

They are corrupt. There's good reason to believe that the government are already killing protesters. Gangs are rampant. There's not civil war yet, but you can bet that the US already picked a side. (hint: it's the side that will be most beneficial to private investments)

Just look who's supporting him. Where the money comes from. The gun lobby and the meat lobby are big backers, since he's campaining on less gun control and erasing the Amazon in favor of more meat production. Who's he against? A workers party that has historically brought millions of Brazilians out of poverty through social welfare programs. This isn't unique to Brazil. You'll see capital everywhere siding with the extreme right, because that's where they will find less regulation and more freedom to make money off of whatever they want. Trump is a good example, but this is all over the west. It's not a coincidence that they're all demonizing anything left-wing as communist or socialist. Capitalists love that stuff, and don't care the slightest if the person saying it is fascist.

what i've been reading suggests that his rise is probably less due to outsiders pushing him on the people through heavy financing and more due to homegrown fears of violence from the outside. brazil's homicide rate per capita is 6x that of the US.

always reminds me of the warning from ben franklin

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

he didn't say that because he was the first to consider that exchange. it's an incredibly natural human instinct to pursue it.

I'd say the rise of nationalism globally is more of a push back to the rise of globalism that happened in the late 20th century, as well as a response to terrorism and unrest in the Middle East and likewise the refugee crisis. But capitalism, and more over, it's failures to help the majority of a nation's citizens have a direct link to it as well. When people see a system in place for so long and they feel as if it's not helping them or their families, they tend to shift towards the poles on the political spectrum and want to completely revamp the system entirely. Not to mention you have a major foreign power that has been pissed off at the West since the fall of the Soviet Union and realize the way to break up their stranglehold on the world is to fund and push nationalism.

As for where it's all heading? Likely another major war at some point once the powder keg is lit. Right now we're still in the early stages. Just wait for another global recession to hit and then shit will hit the fan.

That's been his platform mostly, and what voters have cared about according to exit polls, yeah. Essentially three things: 1) Change from the widespread corruption, 2) tough stance on violence, 3) Anti-workers party vote.
But again, look who's funding. One of the big newspapers in Brazil, Folha de So Paolo, uncovered a pretty big scandal of illegal campain contributions where private entrepreneurs paid millions and millions on fake news campaigns via WhatsApp.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/oct/18/brazil-jair-bolsonaro-whatsapp-fake-news-campaign

So yeah, he's playing on the fears, unrest and conservatism of Brazilians, but with the backing of greedy capitalists who would favor him over Haddad.

Very true, and I think that's also playing a major role in these people coming back into power. But I'm saying wait till a bigger one hits once they are already in power, then I think the fuse for a major global issue will have been lit.
