After the NES and SNES classic became a thing, the possibility of more systems like this, where you can use original carts rather than being limited to a set of predetermined ROMs is no longer viable.

Them hurting AT games is a good thing. AT games release crappy products. The AT games Genesis don't play their emulated games well and play genesis carriages worse. We are better off without them.

I'm so glad Sega wised up and decided to go with someone else for the Genesis mini. Maybe it will actually be of good quality now. Too bad you can still buy AT games Genesis flashbacks everywhere. Avoid them.

I agree with the collectors part. Its also their fault that things like the Nintendo Classics are doing what they're doing. Artificial price inflation is whats ruining Retro gaming. I'm not even saying its a bad thing, but in the context of Romless retro gaming, the price of collecting is whats holding it back.

Except that some such devices were made in response to the classic line's popularity.

I've had first hand experience with that Sega Genesis Flashback and it was one of the worst systems I've ever played on. The controllers only work within 2 feet away, half the of 80 games are freeware games like sudoku and chess, and some of my game cartridge did not work on the system. Also the system does not use HDMI like the NES classic meaning you'll have to find an old TV with RCA to play this system.

At first the Nes and SNES minis were hard to come by and yeah there was inflation in their prices online but recently Nintendo has done a better job keeping them in stock. My local target has had them in stock every time I stop by for the last three months now.
