Seems like the Dems are expected to flip the house but actually possibly lose Senate seats. Some blue wave...

I'm very confident at this point that Missouri is going to lose its Democratic Senate seat to an insane ivy league loser because McCaskill is just so fucking bad. I voted for her but only because she's not quite as awful as the R but like, who does she think is going to vote for her when she's the "liberal" choice and her ads are about how we need like more border security and shit like that. I felt gross voting for her.

It's probably gonna be close on the Senate but the house feels almost like a lock. But we also thought 2016 was a lock so

I just want Ted Cruz to lose

There was a referendum on my ballot to see if people would be in favor of legalizing marijuana. You could tell which people know how these type of things work and those who don't. I have seen a lot of people that think if it passes that it automatically makes it legal and not just a vote to see if it is worth perusing.

There are actually 3 weed propositions on the ballot this year for us. There's one good one, one that's probably pretty bad and one that would just line the pockets of a Saul Goodman type TV lawyer. I voted for the good one but it would pretty funny if that bad one passed

I had wondered the same thing about ours. It both asks if for legalizing, but also for taxing it. I wonder if some will vote no because of the taxing of it when some just want to make it legal and not have to pay taxes on it.

Unrelated to the election, today I saw the Smash website posted Guile's theme is in the game. That's great of course, but it got me thinking... Does Street Fighter 2 have the best game soundtrack ever? And did you know the composer was like 22 at the time and she lied about having experience composing for games?

Anyway how can you beat this

It is a good soundtrack. Turbo edition came out when I was in high school and I would go to the sound test screen to play the music as I got ready for school.

Isn't that how all of the states do it? Taxing it, that is. If there are any that don't, that would be interesting. My guess would be any marijuana legalization is going to have to be highly regulated (given that it's already on shaky legal ground federally) so taxes come with that. It's just like alcohol and tobacco, although I just looked it up and there are a couple states with no alcohol tax. I wonder if that means your neighbor can legally sell you his bathtub moonshine

The senate and gubernatorial races are a bad sign but I don't even know what to believe at this point. The 538 projection has the Dems still projected to take the house but it's disgustingly narrow after seeing what it was pre-election so I wouldn't be surprised if they lose it. We all knew they weren't going to take the senate anyway so oh well.

How can this country be so fucking dumb, it feels like there really is no hope at this point

Looking at Colorado... seems like we're basically a solid blue state at this point. Hillary won here in 2016 and all the key races are going to Dems. The only big disappointment here for me is that it looks like a measure to add 0.62% in sales taxes for like $1.5 billion towards roads is going to fail, but maybe there was something to that I'm missing?

Missouri used to vote with every presidential election winner up until 2008, and since then it's been pretty deep red. It's why I'm confident our incumbent D Senator will lose, and she only won reelection in 2012 because she was up against that Todd Akin guy who had that rant about "legitimate rape." Which hardly seems like it would be disqualifying in 2018 anyway.

Getting the house was the reasonable goal. Losing senate seats sucks but they were basically red state seats. I have some optimism for 2020 in both the senate and presidential election. I think the will of the people to not re-elect Trump is there, but we need a good candidate.

I don't even know who I'd get excited about in 2020 which really shows what a problem they have. But as I alluded to it's probably good that there isn't too big of a name out there. In hindsight Hillary's campaign was basically over before it even started

To me, the obvious candidate is Bernie. Or if he doesn't want to do the campaign grind again someone he picks out. He drummed up grassroots support that was basically never heard of last time and gave a real challenge to The Anointed One Hillary. He's not perfect by any means but he's very popular and very well known.

Of course he's an independent so establishment Ds will always hate him and do whatever they can to undermine him. So it'll be someone like Cory Booker or Elizabeth Warren, who are both like kinda fine I guess

My big concern about Bernie is his age but I don't know, do voters even give a shit about that anymore? Other than that, AFAIK he's maintained pretty high favorability despite putting himself into the spotlight. I guess he's still my top guy at this point too.

I think I'm probably overthinking the age thing just because of McCain but Palin was a huge factor in that. I'd hope Bernie wouldn't pick somebody as equivalently stupid as Palin. He'd also be damn near 80 though which is really pushing it

Well it was a decent election night but I hate thinking about this stuff so let's get our final thoughts in in the last four posts then start fresh

It is. I don't really know anyone currently elected who is all that close to him policy wise though. Bare minimum, universal healthcare (or medicare for all or whatever you wanna call it) is clearly a winning issue though so the Dem needs to run on that. Also the Dem should run on impeaching Trump and Gorsuch/Kavanaugh because why the fuck not, you're never gonna win over republicans anyway.
