I liked how we knew Doc Ock was going to be a villain, but him knowing that Peter was Spider-Man threw me for a loop

add that to the dynamic of their mentor/mentee relationship, and how much Peter idolized him, but he was still willing to kill Peter was a gut punch

and when Peter decided not to use the vaccine on Aunt May so that he could save many others, going back to what he said to Doctor Octavius, about how doing the right thing sometimes hurts, made this one of the better Marvel stories, IMO

and I also dug the after credits scenes with Myles and Harry

the only thing holding the game back, for me, were the stealth segments. they weren't terrible, and getting different perspectives were nice, but the stealth mechanics and enemy AI were the most basic things ever

I was so confused by this part.

I was like, "But...he knew Peter was Spidey the entire game. He saw him with his suit in like one of the first scenes???" And then I realized you were supposed to think that Doc thought Peter was only Spidey's friend or something. Totally misunderstood that entire part of their relationship.

But yeah, the ending was great, and Doc Ock was an amazing villain in this game. Probably even better than his portrayal in SM2.

The reveal with Harry was a mind-blower as well. I honestly can't wait to see how they incorporate him into a sequel. Hopefully some Green Goblin/Venom team up or something.

Figured Doc was just playing along with keeping it a secret. Like, "Ohhh, yeah, you're totally not Spidey, you just make his stuff. Wink wink."

Granted, I guess that is what Doc was doing in the end since he says he always knew. But...yeah.

But I was playing with my friend, so I might've just missed a line or two as well if we were talking.

I feel like the reveal would have been better if they hadn't made him so falsely oblivious earlier in the game.

Through all the phone calls and whatnot how did people not see that dr ock knew he was spidey. The way he looked at him initially and the way he said "friend" over the phone said he was playing along.

I guess it's because there's that trope in a lot of superhero storylines where a hero might slip up, and leave a clue to their identity, and when someone close to them sees it, they usually don't make the connection that they're dealing with the actual hero but instead, someone who knows them in some way

like, "Bob can't possibly be Super Dude, he must do his taxes", or something like that

Game did a good job of playing with player sympathy for Otto, Osborn, and Li. Insomniac understood the lore and even built on it seamlessly.

Yeah I really loved how the Spidey/Otto relationship in the game, they did a great job with it. The character relationships with pretty great, as was the reveal with Harry. The overall story seemed pretty meh at times but I think the ending pulled it all together really enjoyably.

I read that more Sinister Six missions were planned but they had to be scrapped due to time restraints. I wish we had a little more of them tbh.

I was surprised just how good the story was. I was only in it because the web swinging looked really fun. I also agree with you that the stealth segments was the weakest part of the game. It was really unfun and easy to manipulate once you figure out how the ai works. If I ever had the chance to fight instead of stealth, I always just go for an out right brawl.

I think Peter was too overprotective, and being around someone like him would make a lot of people want to also do heroic stuff

it probably caused a lot of conflict, where she wanted to prove herself, and Peter had other ideas

This was so heart wrenching for me. The emotion in that scene is so thick. The VA for Peter nailed it. Which just added to it.

Its one of the reasons why Spider-Man is such a great hero. He often chooses the option that many others wouldnt. Because he knows and remembers the last time he didnt...uncle Ben died. He knows you cant backslide and pick and choose when you help people. You have to help as many as you can. And it causes great pain on Peter.

I didn't catch it the first time but he says "You knew?" to both Ock and May, and the reads are very different but equally great.

I think the biggest reason this game did well critically is because it's not just another Spider-Man game put out to make money to fund the next Call of Duty. Like, I'd never accuse most of the 3D Spidey games as being developed by people who didn't care about the character, but it's just so obvious Insomniac had a lot more creative control than any team under the Activision name did.

It's actually way deeper than that.

Remember, Ben died because Peter refused to act. It was his absolute most selfish action, and it cost him dearly. Now he's in the exact same situation; refuse to act, and May dies... but now it's the most SELFLESS thing he can do, because otherwise everyone else will die.

It's no wonder he's so conflicted in that scene.
