ultimately thanks to them you were born, personally my parents weren't bad parents, but they were constantly quarreling for decades which ended giving me and my brother mental trauma and other damages like reputation among the neighbors and relatives due to it

but the morals that i have and the quality of my character is ultimately thanks to good parenthood, i was raised right even in bad environment at home

I agree that you should forgive them. We're all only human after all, and as you grow up you should realize that your parents are just people, too. But you don't have an obligation to keep them in your life. You don't have an obligation to keep anyone in your life for that matter.

Nah, I'll let my "good" siblings do that if they want (the ones they didn't deliberately impose hardships upon for no reason).

My parents' idiocy set both me and my brother back several years in terms of life/education/career things, so they can rely on my sisters to take care of them, if they so choose. After all, they gave them every free pass and all the help in the world, so it makes more sense for them to return the favor.

Happily spend time with my parents a few times a month, but there are some out there quite beyond redemption. Now, you shouldn't forgo a chance at a connection that you want deep down over petty resentment, but there are some parents that crossed a line of eternal hatred.

I'm scared to have kids because I think very few people are actually good parents, despite their best intentions. Humans are inherently selfish and inconsiderate, and proper parenting demands the exact opposite. Everyone has issues, everyone makes mistakes. But you're talking about shaping another human being for the rest of their life, and that's super heavy to me.

My parents weren't perfect, we fought sometimes (a lot with my mother, and still to this day). I didn't get a lot of the advantages some people do. I know they cared for me though and that they tried, and for me that's enough.

Anyone who had shitty and/or abusive parents should not help them at all. People shoild forgive those that do not commit terrible offenses or are abusers.

A shitbag abuser who tries to repent cause they found god can go help other people but should never expect the victim to forgive them.

Good people with good parents push the whole forgiveness thing cause they had a good life, I have seen friends with abusive parents and we laughed when the shithead parents died cold and alone. They earned that horrible fate for being a terrible person, no sympathy deserved.
