As long as it makes a tiny amount of sense.

Sometimes it just makes 0 goddamn sense and it just takes me out of the game.

If it's a start of the game trope, it's usually garbage. I'm fine with a flashforward if they want to give a taste of the power you will eventually get. If it's a mid-game challenge section, it's usually fine.

A dance with rogues was awful for this

they took away your inventory like 8 times and you had to reorganize every time you got it back

If you brought Ayla along, you could bypass the section completely.

Metroid Fusion is the best example for a game doing this the right way. Spoilers in case you haven't played: You start off as normal, fully kitted Samus and then you get infected by the SA-X. So you have to have surgery and your old suit isn't compatible anymore.

I personally thought it was good.

I tossed my strongest weapons on that one island on BotW in advance.

Oh, no. I just meant you don't need to sneak around until you get your stuff back; you can just fight your way out.
