300 million people aren't going to stop 7+ billion (and growing) from changing the climate. Anything short of a climate change tyrant isn't to make a difference.

The country that produced the 2nd most carbon emissions in 2016 definitely can't do anything about this(http://www.globalcarbonatlas.org/en/CO2-emissions) and the absence of the premier global power in all efforts to do anything about it has no effect at all, I'm sure. As per the topic, I'd say the Democratic politicians quoted were being realistic given the likelihood that the Republicans will retain a Senate majority and the fact that the president believes this is all a Chinese hoax or whatever, but then there's also no reason to believe that they have any intention of doing anything ambitious policy-wise. ...
