I am part native but it's a fraction of a percent. My great grandfather was like 1/8th Shawnee. I never claim to be anything but white though because that's definitely my dominant ancestry.

So your great granddad is full blooded then? And I believe it's 1/16 to be eligible for things. I'm 1/4 Navajo Indian and actually have full-blooded Native American family members that live on reservations.

This. I actually had a black guy say white people always claim to be Indian to me, but my dad was born by the ruins and he is legit a 1/4. It actually makes up most of any ethnic group, and I dont claim to be anything at all, but it is dumb that even if you are legit Indian you cant really say it if you dont look it cause these people trying to get oppression points.

Either way I see both whites and blacks claiming to be insert notable tribe all the time. Mostly women too.

I'm confirmed 1/8th cheerokee, could possibly be more depending on my dad's side which I believe I also had another great grand parent that was full blooded.

Edit: my great grandmother was full cheerokee. As the story goes my great grandfather possibly abducted her and forced her to be with him. Apparently the day of his funeral she stood on the porch of their house laughed like a crazy person and spit at his funeral procession as it went by. Crazy stuff

Why is it if youre white + %(insert race here) youre no longer white?

Like if youre 50% white and 50% black youre considered black?

I have a friend whos a quarter Native American, he looks white but has darker skin and you can tell hes mixed. But pretty much nobody considers him white.

My dad's uncle was really big on family history and he did a lot of research to have a family tree that can go as far back as possible to the french settlers of New France

Apparently, there is one Iroquois grandmother who lived in the 18th century.

Because of that, my mom has never allowed me to drink alcohol. She would be absolutely terrified if I ever went out with friends in the evening. I got screamed at pretty viciously once because she found out I had a beer.

Why?

Because apparently indians have livers that are unable to digest alcohol.

Like... I have literally one indian ancestor.... who lived over 200 years ago.

I feel like people don't understand that you can have Native ancestors but not show anything in your own DNA in regards to those because you didn't inherit any of the traits or markers.

Which is not the same for everyone based on their experiences. I get called every race under the sun. Regardless, race is also not completely just a social construct, I mean bone marrow is very specifically tied to people of your racial makeup
