I can't find mine for like a month or too. It worries me but I heard I could just get another with my DL and birth certificate

You shouldn't carry your social security card. Memorize the number and keep the card locked away with your passport.

It's an identification thing that basically let people know that you're a legal U.S citizen, thus allowing you to do certain stuff. I this context, I need it for my job where they need two forms of identification (SSN and driver's license in my case).

The Social security number is basically a very important ID number. It goes on like everything even remotely official. You generally don't carry the card on you though unless you need to show 2 forms of ID and you don't have anything else.

Last week an immigrant from El Salvador with US citizenship left his wallet at my work and he was lucky I found it. His whole life was in that wallet. SS card, pass port, ID, money, medical insurance cards. He came back and almost cried when I gave it to him. He shook my hand like three times and hugged me. Felt good man

If you have to get a new card, apply for a passport too (if you don't have one). Two birds one stone and often at the same government office.
