It's an identification thing that basically let people know that you're a legal U.S citizen, thus allowing you to do certain stuff. I this context, I need it for my job where they need two forms of identification (SSN and driver's license in my case). brestugo posted... You shouldn't carry your social security card. The Social security number is basically a very important ID number. It goes on like everything even remotely official. SS card, pass port, ID, money, medical insurance cards. He came back and almost cried when I gave it to him. He shook my hand like three times and hugged me.
