- Person that hasn't bought a comic book in 20 years

You realize that there are many, many writers and artists in the comic book industry who say this right?

Wouldn't Marvel Unlimited have some sort of impact too? Nobody ever seems to bring that up.

Personally I don't see any reason to buy comics that are on that service.

The new stuff doesn't get put on Unlimited until 6 months later.

I honestly stopped when it became Event after Event after Event.

Yeah more or less same here. Plus prices just kept going up. The new diverse version of characters dont make me want to run out and buy a comic, though. Not that I am doing that anyway, but Id be more likely to if its one of my old favorites, probably not gonna give anything new a chance, lol.

Sure but wouldn't this have an impact on some of the lower tier heroes where people wouldn't mind waiting?

I'm sure it does. I know I've gone completely digital due to the great sales that are always going on.

It's more really bad writing that's hurting Marvel.

Honestly, I feel like both companies really need to start focusing on these kinds of services more and moving away from physical books (although it would definitely hurt the comic book shops unless they change their business model to focus more around collectibles and merchandise).

The biggest issue with comics (and Marvel in particular) is that it's simply hard to keep up with everything that's coming out as a consumer. There's seemingly a huge crossover event every couple of months, with multiple comic series that connect to it. It's just too much to expect a consumer to go into a comic shop, try to figure out from the staff what books are a) relevant and b) worth reading, and then have them buy into several different series when many of the books can cost almost $8 for a single issue.

Instead, they should be releasing comic books first on their digital-based subscription service, with a limited amount of physical copies for the actual comic book collectors out there (which would in turn make those physical editions actually valuable and desirable, since they aren't being produced in such larger quantities anymore). Then users can "favorite" certain series and receive notifications on their phone, tablet, laptop, etc., when a new issue for that series is released.

Take it a step further and offer merchandise and collectibles at a discounted price for being an active subscriber.

For DC, I'd even say add it to their new streaming service, since they're apparently selling merchandise on there as well.

I mean, I already know that Marvel Unlimited exists, but it really should start becoming the primary way they deliver comic books to the masses, rather than it simply being a service that they throw old issues onto after everybody stops caring.

How are Marvel's sales compared to DC? And has DC done the big Diversity shtick too?

I figure if they aren't and they're doing better, then that's suggest the big push for Diversity at least isn't helping Marvel.

Did you never watch the old Super Friends cartoons with Apache Chief, Black Vulcan, El Dorado, Rima, Cyborg and Samurai?

Apache Chief's movie will make the DCCU's box office sales GROW.

Also, I remember I myself was pissed when DC retconned Martian Manhunter out of being a founding JLA member in favor of Cyborg.

I agree tbh. I think the entire comics model needs an overhaul. It's way too convoluted.

Even reading as something as basic as Spider-Verse is really weird on Marvel Unlimited. That was only a few years ago.

Yeah, Unlimited could really use an overhaul. The content is fine, navigating it can be a bitch sometimes.
