Look at the dead wrestlers from this decade alone:

So few reach their 60s and 70s.

wear & tear, body never recovers. the show must go on. person is forgotten and the body never completely recovers. age factors from the years or decades of impact. quality of life unlikely gets better as the exwrestlers depend on medication to manage life after wrestling.

makes me think about other full contact players and their lives as they manage through the pain of the sport. would players also have issues from their sports related injuries in their later years?

Drugs
Alcohol
Steroids

i believe theres a duality to this as ways to manage pain. drugs, alcohol, steroids are ways for the body numb and enhance performance for a few years. pop some painkillers (opioids) as a way to get by to dull the pain while continuing to perform all year round. tolerance to the pain builds up. however the older the wrestler gets becomes too much pain to manage. do that for years and you need stronger doses...

Drugs, alcohol and steroids, loneliness from being on the road 300 days a year which can lead to depression, all kinds of things. A pro wrestling locker room can pass for a backyard pharmacy.

A combination of risk factors significantly decrease their lifespans. First, life on the road is hard. Your diet isn't great, you are always stressed from traveling, etc. Then, you have the popularity of alcohol and drugs, either because of aforementioned life on the road, or to cope with the pain from performing. On top of that, despite being 'fake', the stunts they perform are very real and very dangerous and they tend to take a significant toll on performers (they are essentially professional, performing stuntmen). This is pretty exemplified by several wrestling legends like Iron Sheik or Undertaker, who can barely walk anymore, or some of the other guys who have suffered career ending injuries like concussions/head trauma, spine problems, permanently damaged ligaments, or strained organs.

Way too many of them heavily engage in the usage of painkillers and the bigger ones like Vader, Viscera and Umaga always die from heart problems

Yeah. A lot of their body shapes are a bit much for a heart to handle for an entire lifetime with their lifestyle.

I mean that link shows a lot that got pretty old. Bruno Sammartino lasted a long, long time! The youngest ones are women that were taking anabolic steroids, clearly done to themselves. Men and women are actually different!
