They have touched on it but it hasnt been a focus. I honestly expected the show to suck but ive been pleasantly surprised. Its not just jump scares with lame characters and story telling. C_Pain 10/14/18 11:25:10 PM #5:	I've watched the first four and it's quite good. It's not entirely horror, or at least, a lot of the horror is just from the drama of the situation. I really find the characters interesting and the writing is quite good. The child actors are also really good imo. I might even prefer the child scenes to the present. I do like that narrative tool though, of two storylines and showing how the future came to be because of the present. Some of the spooks are quite effective. Holy shit at episode 4!! --- How quaint. Maniac is great in its own right but the acting on this show (especially the child actors) is top notch and extremely well written. Its a slow burn (the first 7 episodes basically set up the last 3 [I know this doesn't make sense but you'll understand it, the first 7 episodes each focus on one family member mostly]) but it is well executed. For so long, the star of the show in horror movies has been either the killer or the death/scare scenes, with characters just being something to kill off or torment and the show/movie being little more than an excuse to string horror sequences together. Mike Flanagan seems to be going for a more character-driven style of horror, even if it means easng back a bit on the scares. At first i wasn't sold of his work because i went into horrors expecting the usual, but it's a really nice change to actually care about the characters even despite their flaws. It was a weird setup, having to piece everything together, but it settled in nicely thanks to a good director who trusts that his audience arent idiots. The scariest thing so far was the opening scene IIRC, when the little girl is trying to sleep and the boy comes out of the wall. --- Let me talk to your mother.
