blicans.

Yeah hes not the brightest, and he said some pretty stupid stuff in the White House today. But his central message is one that I feel like most people can get behind. There are a lot of misunderstandings between the Republican Party and the black community. A fool Kanye may be, but a bigger fool is the man that wants to put a halt to what hes trying to do, in my opinion.

that's not what people want to put a halt to. its all the stupid stuff he's saying (that you admit he's saying) that he's being criticized for. Not just because he's a "black republican"..

Its cool that hes basically been getting a hefty number of Republicans to appreciate hip hop (at least, the stuff he makes) out of pure spite.

The way this topic is phrased is exactly why this isn't actually happening. Black people aren't a fucking monolith that all think the same, nor are we a hivemind.

Well statistically speaking, there arent many black Republicans.

And its my personal observation that the Republican Party has been insensitive at best to problems that exist in the black community. Kanye is helping to create more dialogue between the two. Republicans who may have a poor perspective on how their party has treated black people may become more aware of how blacks have been affected by the party, because of this dialogue.

I doubt they care, and are just pretending to now for good press. Would be surprised if Kanye is telling them anything they haven't repeatedly been told already, and simply didn't give a toss about, but now a big celeb on the centre stage is? Well that's different!

Just very sceptical they actually care and isn't just a publicity stunt for them.

And yet when Kaepernick wanted to open a dialogue, the Republicans shouted him down.

I don't get why Republicans and conservatives think they're gonna somehow talk their way out of reality. I've met so many snake oil selling conservatives who try that whole "Democrats are the real racists" bullshit and start with their low expectations racism bit about how black people are so easily fooled by the white devil and how we're a hivemind. And at the same time, they're expecting us to be so dumb that we'll believe the stupid bullshit they're trying to sell.

tl;dr: Don't you fucking insult me with your bullshit.

I support what Kaepernick started, but lets not abandon honesty here. What Kaepernick started was not a dialogue. It was an ultimatum. However, I agree with the ultimatum, because to disagree with what Kaepernick is kneeling for is to accept the sustained killing of black people who are not posing a physical threat to anyone around them. I also agree with Black Lives Matter, because to disagree is the say black lives do not matter.

But Kanye did things a bit differently. He initiated the conversation in a tactful manner. He got people to listen before he started shouting.

But if Kaep actually cared about his BLM message, he wouldn't be calling people the N word on the field. It's almost like he knelt for another reason. Maybe that's why he gets backlash because people can see right through it
