The White House is planning on tackling cannabis reform after the midterm elections, according to Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif.

Rohrabacher tells FOX Business that the Trump administration has made a solid commitment to fix marijuana regulation.

I have been talking to people inside the White House who know and inside the presidents entourage... I have talked to them at length. I have been reassured that the president intends on keeping his campaign promise.

Rohrabacher says the president has spoken in support of legalizing medical marijuana on the federal level and leaving the question of recreational marijuana use up to the states.

I would expect after the election we will sit down and well start hammering out something that is specific and real, he said.

The California congressman, who is up for re-election this November, is battling to hold onto a seat that national Democrats have identified as part of their strategy to win the House majority this midterm election.

Rohrabacher faces Democrat Harley Rouda. RealClearPolitics has listed the seat that Rohrabacher has held for five years as a toss-up and the polling average has both candidates in a dead heat with both at 48 percent of voter support.

Recreational marijuana was just recently legalized in California this year but reforms on the federal level have been stalled for decades. Yet, according to Rohrabacher, that will soon change: It could be as early as spring of 2019, but definitely in the next legislative session.

HOLY SHIT, THIS IS GREAT.

The left is already on-board with cannabis reform, and if Trump doubles down on his support of it, I think a very signifcant portion of the right will warm up to it too. (Hopefully not too many on the left start opposing it as a reactionary measure, but with how committed they have been to cannabis reform for so long, I doubt even the most extreme ones will do so.)

Though it'd be even better if they push it through before the midterms, that way a Democrat victory can't prevent it (you know, their usual tactic of block something themself, then complain about the right being the ones blocking it - their politicians don't have the same outlook on this matter as their followers).

If Trump actually cared about marijuana he wouldnt have made Jeff Sessions AG. I can imagine him firing Sessions using this reason as cover though.

Im cautiously optimistic. If theyre being legit then Im in fulll support of them...but with an election looming that will see millions more younger individuals voting, excuse me for not fully believing that the GOP suddenly, and out of no where, had a change of heart when it comes to weed...Ill wait and see what they propose.

If he did legalize it for medical use on a federal level while also leaving recreational up to the states, it'll be funny when just about every single Republican state refuses to legalize it while all the staunchly Democratic ones do. Dems have dominated New York state forever and haven't done jack shit about it.

It all depends on one thing, if Trump and Sessions are getting along. A federal cannabis reform would be a huge screw you to Sessions.

I was kinda hoping he would go after it, just so that states would fight back and make it a SCotUS issue. Not sure how I feel now that Kavanaugh is confirmed though.

I can't see this happening with Wombat ears as Attorney General, but if Trump fires him for whatever reason, I can see an about face. I don't think Trump cares either way, it's Sessions that's super against it.
