To me there were too many enemies in 2 for me to consider it scary. Tense though, I never knew if I was gonna run out of ammo. Liked the story though.

Story was stupid in 3 but I liked the environments and that one creeping enemy that looks around corners. (Or was that in 2 as well? Can't remember)

Never really considered it a masterpiece or anything, but it was a solid game IMO. Loved the dismemberment focused combat and the weapons were awesome. With the exception of the rifle I like how they were all basically tools that you used as weapons because they worked much better than conventional guns on the necros. It's just fun to play and the combat just feels good.

Also major props to the HUD integration in that game.

hey unfair, i dont have the hate-boner for you that a lot of other people here have. me and you have had a pleasant exchange or two in the past if i remember correctly.

and the truth is: dead space is not an amazing game. however, i do believe it is a good horror game.
now, before i start i must mention i have only played the first game, and its been at least 6 years since i played it last:
(oh and SPOILERS maybe)
- as mentioned before, the lack of a hud and all the vital information being on issacs suit was great.
- i like how none of the weapons are actually weapons, but tools. you are not a soldier.
- and the stasis and other cool powers were unique to me at the time
- despite you saying the tone was bad, i thought it was good? very creepy. but this seems like more of a personal gripe (i will agree that the characters are mostly weak)
- and the environments do get a little bland, but i like that the whole game takes place on the one space ship and that the missions involve you fixing things on the ship (it gave the game and objectives context)

this is really all im willing to say right now and honestly its been so long since ive played it i dont really feel qualified in the first place. basically, the jist is:
dead space is not an amazing game. but it is a totally decent sci-fi horror game in a genre that doesnt have a whole ton of competition (especially back then).

if you want what is in my opinion an amazing example of this type of game, Prey (2017) was it.

actually i've been meaning to. from what i played it wasn't bad, just a little boring. my attention span in regards to games has only been getting shorter. if i were to play ass creed 2 for the first time today i would likely think it's a piece of shit game

i hate telling people give it like 5 hours and then youre hooked because i understand thats quite a commitment, but honestly, give it like 5 hours and then youre hooked

Still gotta note that over 100 posts in and so for the arguments for why Dead Space is a good game are:

1. It came out in 2013.
2. no other horror games exist.
3. Insults.

And Istill maintain that if this topic was about any of the other games I listed above, save for perhaps Martian Gothic, no nobody would struggle this epically to explain how it is good

Sure but compare to Metal Gear Solid 2 or 5 Days A Stranger or Alien Isolation were the enviroment is solid and you stay in the same place which the game plays with.

Dead Space's enviroment is gun metal dull corrirdors forever with lots of backtracking and does nothing to play with the concept of it all being the same place.

Thanks for actually saying your view on why it's good. I wish the rest of the fanbase was like you.

I do respect that the "Targeting limbs for extra damage" and First Letter of Each Mission are cool touches.

I just don't see the difference between "IT's not a generic gun it's a tool that functions like a generic gun" or the appeal of "Yes it's dull gray corridors but the dull gray corridors are the same place."

As stated if this topic was about say.... Resident Evil 7, no one would have any difficulty explaining why it is good.

I don't have to wonder at all, the reality is Dead Space isn't a good game so it's fanbase refuse to admit it.

That simple.

You could prove me wrong by explaining why Dead Space is good, but you won't, you'll post 32 more posts insulting and evading the question and pretending that's a logical thing to do.

How do you convince someone to like a game if he has played through the entire game and seen all it has to offer? Theres no experience youve missed. If you didnt like it, you didnt like it.

I'll be honest I haven't played the rail shooter one yet (have the Wii version), though one of the things you said was comparing Dead Space to FTL just because of aesthetic similarities. As a game DS is much closer to RE4 (which I actually think is better). Though a big part of why I liked Dead Space as a whole is because I like sci-fi, so...eh.

I wasn't comparing them as similar games. Some guy was upset that Dead Space wasn't cheap so I pointed out an infinitly superior game that was cheap. And quite possibly the greatest cheap game out there.

The genre joke was tongue and cheek when the guy said I said they were the same genres (Which I never did)

It's actually pretty easy. Played them all on hard and the only time I got challenged was the final boss on 2, and that's probably because I screwed myself on ammo somehow.
