I'm not too familiar with religion in general, but that's the impression I got.

I think it's more of a culture thing. In my experience, the middle east takes slights more seriously than the west, religion or not. Religion is probably a sweet spot tho. Not sure if Dagestan counts as the middle east, but I'm sure the culture is somewhat similar.

It's not the religion it's the culture. In the west in modern day, religion isn't taken as seriously as it is in the middle east

What are they doing in Paris?

Also, it just seems like Christians joke about their own religion all the time. Like they'll poke fun at God sometimes.

They took it over. French people aren't safe anymore. And since it's called religious activity their leaders have just allowed it to happen. They have their nightly prayer and just fill the streets, you can't go anywhere or do anything.

Yes, because Islam hasn't had its reformation period yet.

I think they just tend to be from areas where religion is taken very seriously

The muslims that live in Dubai and such drink and have girlfriends and whatever else makes them total hypocrites, just like how christians in america can be christians but never go to church or give to the poor or love their neighbors and whatever.

My buddy lived in Qatar and talked about how all the Qatari businessmen would smuggle in booze and go to not-so-secret strip clubs etc

It had its reformation period in some places, but Western foreign policy allowed fundamentalist regimes to take them over, and America to this day continues to topple secular-leaning regimes because it fits the country's short-term interests. For those unaware, Saudi Arabia has the same ideology as ISIS and is the US's top ally in the Middle East. We're definitely not helping.

it comes down to the religion being tied into the culture. it's not the same in every muslim country. in pre-renaissance europe, european christians were highly religious as well. you also have highly religious non-muslim, non-christian countries throughout asia like in india and sri lanka. a lot of the east and southeast asian countries also have religion playing important roles in their lives, and the ones that don't mostly lost their religiosity under communist rule

Nope. This is just anti-western propaganda. The middle east has been in that position for over a thousand years with only brief periods of progress that were undone by other tribes there of their own volition.

US intervention directly led to the rise of extremism in certain places, ignorant one. Ayatollah Khomeini would have never gained power if it wasn't for the USA. Reza Shah wasn't extremist in the slightest and the USA went and toppled him. Why do you insist on talking about subjects you know nothing about?

Iran was already on the verge of collapse after the nationalization of industries like oil. The US assisted with the coup with the Shah's blessing because they wanted more stability.

The idea that it's only because of the USA that these extremist toxic regimes emerged is ignorant. The middle east has almost always been this way.
