Most of the people I've been around my whole life suck.

Because I am me, and no one likes me, not even myself.

That is my answer to the topic question.

For starters, I was homeschooled and only was allowed out of the house with my parents to run errands. There were few neighborhood kids where I grew up, and my parents werent comfortable with me befriending ones who were there.
This lack of socialization followed me until college, where I lacked the social skills and ability to drive myself to/from campus and still lived with my parents and had a curfew.
And now that Im out of undergrad theres far fewer opportunities to make friends and I lack anything in common with my coworkers.

Eh. I have a few really close friends but to be fair only a couple aren't related to me >_>. I have 3 sisters and have no trouble making friends with their SOs and end up hanging out without my sister involved. A few times they had big fallouts and even though they were good friends to me I stop communicating with them out of respect because it's usually the guy cheated or some shit.

I don't like most people I meet. I also only want attention when I want it, so having friends just complicates that. I don't want to feel obligated to do anything I don't want to or hang out when I don't feel like it.

Like today for example. I have to drive 80 miles round trip to a wedding I couldn't give less of a shit about because my GF wants me to go. This is significantly upsetting and has basically ruined my day.

Dude, there are tons of people that aren't that needy. Shit, sometimes I tell my boy to come over if he can't find anything better to do lol. Or if something with a chick comes up I actually incourage him to blow me off. Pause.

Because developing friendship is not one of the values of modern masculine construction. In fact, implicit value towards competition within the socialization of men often actively impedes the development of trust between peers.

Fun fact. Historically, hazing rituals in fraternal organizations were developed as a kind of intense social trial through which several people could build a significant amount of trust in one another in short amount of time by being burdened with several of the group's embarrassing secrets in short order, like a Mexican standoff of blackmail.

EDIT: We're also not raising our boys to be emotionally intelligent. That's actually huge. Not only does it negatively impact the development of their empathy skills, it also interferes with their ability to be aware of their own emotional condition and self-reflect on why they feel the way they feel. This has implications of discipline, self-control, impulse control, you get the picture.

Same. Besides some of my immediate family, everyone outside of a few of my blood relatives that I've tried to become good friends with has let me down significantly. From people being hypocritical and untrustworthy, to ignorant and openly biggoted, or even willfully falling into bad ways(Drugs use, heavy alcoholism, petty crime). So while I give most new people I meet a fair shake, I pretty much really dislike almost everyone I know after having to deal with their bullshit numerous times in my life.

They consider my behavior "antisocial" or possibly even elitist, and ridicule me behind my back, but that really isn't the case. I just have very little patience for people who are problematic, gossip, etc. and like creating pointless drama and bullshit. I disassociate myself from them because I don't want to deal with or need any of that. Life is difficult enough for most of us already as is.

well, here in the middle of nowhere in the dirty south its really hard for me to find people with similar interests and stuff (or that just arent bigoted assholes lol).

Friends arent the problem. I make friends really easy. Im social enough to the point people are surprised I never have a girlfriend. Its a mystery I havent quite solved myself either.
