It has some glaring flaws but overall its a decent movie.

The biggest problem with the prequels in general was that instead of the aliens speaking alien languages and having subtitles, which immerses you into the world, they made the aliens racist stereotypes. You got the Yiddish slave owner. Jar jar the minstrel. The trade federation guys who sound like Godzilla is coming when Qui Gonn and Obi Wan show up at the beginning.

But Darth Maul and Qui Gonn were badasses, and the movie is genuinely entertaining at least. I actually enjoy the first prequel. The other two are clearly worse.

As far as the first order that hasn't really been explained yet but apparently Jon Favreau (elf, iron man) is making a TV show that follows the bad guys from the end of the empire to the establishment of the first order.

Padme is definitely a sexual predator

While Natalie Portman didn't look it, Padme was supposed to be 14 years old in that movie. It's mentioned at least once in the movie. So she is a child too and only a few years older than Anakin. She also didn't have any romantic interest in Anakin. That was completely one-sided on Anakin's part. She didn't start falling for him until AOTC.

Actually I have always wonder if Anakin had been trained by Qui-Gon if he still would have turned to the dark side. I kind of think he wouldn't have since Qui-Gon would almost certainly been a much better teacher than Obi-Wan.

It's also Jar Jar who ruins the galaxy since Jar Jar is the one who asks the Senate to give emergency powers to Palpatine. It's all Jar Jar's fault.

Obi Wan didn't want to train Anakin, he agreed with Yoda at first that "the boy is dangerous" but it was Qui-Gon's dying wish in Obi-Wan's arms to have Anakin trained so he basically had to do it.

The Last Jedi is basically two hours of people bitching at each other

TPM basically wins the award of "best prequel" by default. For all its missteps - and there are plenty - it is, at least, entertaining if you don't think about it too hard and it's the only one of the three that doesn't have its head planted firmly in its own ass.

To the best of my knowledge, following RotJ the Empire steadily lost ground and fled to a largely unexplored area of the galaxy. The Rebellion hunted down what elements they could, but eventually believed they'd been reduced to almost nothing and turned their attentions towards rebuilding the galaxy. Which turned out to be a bad idea, because it allowed the Empire to settle on resource-rich worlds and reform itself into the First Order, steadily building up their forces and preparing for a resurgence.

Some of the New Republic noticed the growing threat and tried to raise support for a military campaign to crush the First Order once and for all, but they got little support from the new government. As such, they opted to break away and form their own military group opposed to the First Order and that became the Resistance.

So basically, the New Republic was in an armed detente with the First Order until TFA, while the Resistance was actively opposed to them and fighting the occasional skirmish.
