Hey all, I posted this on the android/ios boards as well. Can you guys tell me what I am going to like about iphone, and what I might actually hate about it?
How can I make my transition to iphone easier?

Copied from android board:
So I have a samsung Galaxy s8, and my wife is upgrading her iphone to the new one. She is with verizon and im with another carrier.

Verizon has a deal where you buy one new iphone, you get 700 towards a second iphone. My plan is to get in on that deal so we dont miss out on the free money.

Ideally, I want to keep the new iphone in perfect condition and sell it once the new Samsung Note comes out.

Do you guys think thats a good plan? Also, what android features will I miss out on when I move over to iphone temporarily? I really hate iphones, so unfortunately I dont know too much about them.

I think im going to miss being able to transfer photos and documents easily with my SD card, probably going to miss being able to install apps from outside of the official stores, and I also have an ad-blocker that blocks ads on EVERYTHING (is this a samsung feature?), but is there more?

What is going to drive me nuts for the next 9-10 months?

You can use iCloud Drive to transfer pictures and docs. What apps outside of the store do you actually use? I never got this one. I use Brave as a browser and it does a really good job of blocking ads.

I have some apps that doesnt exist on the app stores that allow me to stream certain content like live soccer games that arent airing on any channels for my country, apps that allow certain hardware to work (not on any app stores), Anime streaming apps (not on app stores), apps like Peggo that allow me to save audio from youtube videos, etc... etc... I actually have a modded youtube app that allows playback while screen is off, and other cool features, and guess what... not on any app stores.

I guess its nice that i can get a browser to block ads, but the way my phone blocks ads, is weird, it even blocks ads from the youtube app itself, and other apps like games, etc... I dont even know what ads look like anymore.

Im not trying to bash iphone or promote android, im going to be using an iphone and want to know there are ways I can make the switch without being annoyed for the next 10 months.

The lack of a back button is the biggest problem for a lot of people. It drove me absolutely crazy for the short amount of time I had to use an iPhone Xs.

Oh yeah all the stuff you want to circumvent or be less than legal aren't there and you're going to hate it.

Is getting a super cheap Android an option instead?

imo of course:

the best part of the iphone is that it is the most popular phone. normally shit like this wouldnt matter, but the iphones popularity in the US gives it a lot of unique advantages.

as a result: you can imessage and facetime tons of people who use these features automatically. you have the most options for cases & accessories. your phone is compatible with the most items (i.e. car stereos). you have apple stores all over the place if you break your phone and need it fixed in an hour. anywhere you go where you'll need a charger, someone probably has an iphone charger you can use. etc etc

there are other things that people like, such as the apple ecosystem, software updates, etc but i find all those really underwhelming and not that important when you go to day-to-day use case.

what will annoy you about iphones is the lack of customization, the very dated UI, lack of true multitasking (if you use it), difficulty in managing the device through your PC, and honestly just a general lack of features.

what i like about android phones is that i can go to a store, look at all the phones, and pick one that has the features that are most attractive to my use case, but with the iphone you pretty much have to take what you're given and hope that it has the features you like. for me, a lot of times it does not.

i'll probably be getting an android phone as my next one, i'm pretty fed up with apple/ios.

Bunch of people didn't read the topic.

Anyway. TC I recommend just keeping the phone boxed up if you can unless they have to activate it as part of the deal. Your current samsung is still good. If you have to use the phone I recommend using the transfer tool provided by apple and then using it as little as possible to avoid putting yourself into a locked ecosystem which is the apple MO.

Basically don't buy anything off iTunes or pay for any apps.

I think I'm a grumpy old man with phones. I don't want widgets on my home screen with my email or whatever just out there. I don't care that the icons snap in a line because having them floating around annoys me more. I'm not watching sports from another country. I can hit skip after 4 seconds on a YouTube ad but I don't watch much YouTube to begin with. I don't care about losing music if I unsubscribe to Apple Music, I would lose the music from whatever other service I would subscribe to anyway. I like that my apps don't crash all the time.

I used my wife's old Android for 2 weeks to see if I liked it and the small stuff like saving a meme and then trying to figure out where in the hell the file system stuck it frustrated me more.

That said, I hate the notch in the new iPhones, and I hate the headphone jack removal.
