I figured a topic about video game endings would have a varied set of options if it ended up being poll of the day, but I'm appalled that there's no "Player choice/Consequence ending" option.

Like, I figure the player's choices, actions, and decisions should influence the ending. The best expression of that was Mass Effect 2's potential range of endings all the way from the Tragic one where only Joker survives, all the way up to the triumphant Everyone Survives the Suicide Mission ending.

I like endings the most where my actions and choices mattered in the end, whether I got punched in the feels for losing my favorite character(s) because I was cheap and lazy and didn't upgrade something or earn their trust, or if I get a true sense of accomplishment where my leadership resulted in everyone who trusted me surviving to come home as heroes.

I want more player choice and consequences involved in stories overall. I want the decision to kill a particular enemy to mean something down the road, whether one of his surviving family members comes for revenge or one of their past victims comes to reward me for getting them justice or whatever.

I didn't realize this until you mentioned it. A player's choice ending is a good idea. I think another choice they could include is Depends on the game. That's why I usually say that polls should include an Other or None of the above option. I like happy endings only, but I know everyone has different opinions.

I like endings that make sense to the theme of the game, and appropriately resolve the conflict that was the main driving force of the experience, regardless of whether or not it's a happy, sad, or ambiguous ending.

It will still fall into one of these categories even if the player had an influence in it... so I don't think this option is needed.
