Alright I'm starting to find this game unreasonably tough with the controls.

Found a document called "Orders" which says this whole thing was a set up. White Umbrella plans to destroy everything and this was all a test.

Got the sweet magnum and fought the snake again 3 times. I can't even get around it with enough time to turn around, aim and shoot without taking a hit.

Resident Evil: Director's Cut Dualshock

The dualshock version is the one with the crappy music. The original director's cut has the original game, a easy mode, and a arranged mode that is harder and the items are in different locations, as well as different outfits. You'll probably not want to pick up another copy of RE1, but if you ever wanted too, arranged mode in director's cut is pretty fun once you mastered the original.

Just realizing now that if a pool of blood comes out of a downed zombie it means it won't get back up. I've been using the auto target to see if shit is around or not up until now. If it was getting back up, Jill would snap to it.

Alright got the MO Disk. Got the battery for the courtyard elevator (I don't wanna go back there). Got the code for that one door. And there's this locked door all the way at the end of this path. Gotta remember that. But it actually looks like it just connects to the room with the stairs on the 2nd floor. Odd.

So all loaded up on ammo. Used almost all my handgun ammo on these basic bitch zombies taking zero damage (minus one super sneaky playing dead zombie). Got plenty of herbs and a good amount of shotgun, magnum and bazooka ammo.

Gonna go to the door with the code and then back to the courtyard. Running from snakes that fall from the sky. Really hope there aren't too many battle toads on the way there. Those guys are still the worst.

Alright that locked door was just on the other side of the keypad. Lame.

There's still that room with the mirror that has a door saying I don't have the key for it yet. Other than that every room seems to be explored in the mansion. Shocked there's nothing underneath the stairs in the main hall. Nothing in this bathroom of note either. I don't trust rooms where I don't find anything in them. Back to the courtyard.

Shit. That battery just makes a shortcut? It's not even a good one. Don't have to deal with raining snakes but I could avoid those easily. Where do I go now? Guess this key opens something back in the plant house. There's still this water fall that says there's something behind it.Shit. Nope. Well now I'm fucked cause I don't recall there being any doors left unopened that I can open or any puzzles I didn't solve. There's the MO Disk. Still got the crank. Ah. Alright use the crank to shift the water? Then I can get behind that water fall?

Oh God. There's this room right next to the West save room that I went into originally and then died. Forgot to go back. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Now I got the DOOM BOOK and some more magnum ammo.

Alright figured it out. Glad I didn't have to look it up. Found the ladder behind where the water was flowing. Sewer level. Of course there's a sewer level.

Oh wow you can actually choose whether to go with Barry or not. Finally. I see no downsides to teaming up. I'm going with him. Hmm you can also let him take point I guess? Jill's got big dick energy though so she's going first. Barry's already saved her enough times.

This is cool. Didn't expect this.

UN-RICO! Nooooo!

What the fuck? Was he shot? How did they not see who did it? Wait a second crank? Uhhh. Alright so there's the hexagon hole. I got two cranks. The crank doesn't fit the hole. Oh wow good thing I tried both identical cranks. That's easily messed up. And it rotates the entire thing? Ceiling, floor, walls? Who the hell designed this place?

Also I wish there was some optional dialog with Barry or Un-Rico where Jill told them about the document she found clearly stating that Umbrella set the whole thing up.

Back to it. Nice of Barry to just abandon me. That team up lasted all of 10 seconds.

Yeah, Chris is the hard mode of the game with his extra keys, smaller inventory, Rebecca, and lack of a bazooka. But, its much more satisfying beating the game with him IMO.

Also the snakes health doesnt double if you avoid fighting it in the attic.

A little advice: Save the magnum for hunters and bosses. Dont bother with the baby spiders, they despawn when you leave the room. Generally dont bother even fighting web spinners at all actually. Running around the cerberuss in the courtyard is a good idea as well.

One thing that I always thought that made RE1 more challenging than its sequels was the scarcity of ammo. Sounds like by now you already know that it's good to conserve ammo whenever you can.

Rebecca is definitely one of the more annoying sidekicks imo. She's like the Tails to Chris' Sonic.

Tried out that bonus key yet? iirc, you can get to its locked door once you have the armor key.

Yeah the start of the game was super tough, but now that I've saved up a good amount of shotgun ammo I'm doing much better. Then again I haven't had to face the hunters yet. I always used the bazooka on those fucks.

One good thing I'm guessing is that since there's no bazooka, you get more shotgun ammo? Feels like it.

Glad you enjoyed it. Wish I played this back in the late 90s. Woulda blew my mind. I can still appreciate how amazing this was for its time and honestly I think it holds up if you don't mind the genre (which I don't. Huge Silent Hills fan.)

Also thanks. I figured that out a little late about the spiders with Jill, but it's come in handy with Chris. And yeah I've avoided the spiders in the bar area and the dogs in the courtyard outside the garden. As long as there are wide areas I can get around enemies just fine and save ammo. Those main mansion halls were impossible. Plus you have to go through most of them multiple times if you want to get to the two item box locations and save.

I've basically been speed running right through this time. Making amazing time compared to Jill now that I know the basics. I thought it'd be two mostly different campaigns, but I'm happy enough with the little changes made.

Been playing a LOT today so probably gonna have to call it quits soon. Gonna at least get back to the mansion with those damn battletoad fucks first. Then hopefully just finish this baby up tomorrow and start Resident Evil 2 sometime next week. I'll be making a playthrough topic for that too.

Nope. One of the difference between the two is that Jill knows chemistry, Chris does not. He doesn't know/understand how to make V-Jolt.

The only radio I recall in REmake isn't a proper item. Quick googling tells me it does basically the same thing in the original, but you have to have it on you. Basically, at certain points in the mansion, it'll trigger a little cutscene where Brad Vickers, the helicopter pilot, sends out a message asking if anyone's there. The radio's broken though, so you can't reply back.

Yeah that radio scene happened at the very end of the game on the way to the helipad. But it's an option right under map on the pause screen. Brings it up and you can rotate it like an item, but it doesn't take up an inventory slot.

Nope, besides not knowing how to play piano, Chris doesn't know how to mix chemicals either. For one of the top guys in an elite police squad, Chris doesn't know a whole lot.

That's right, although they're easy to miss, as the radio beeping isn't very loud and can easily go unheard due to other sounds. The radio transmissions aren't crucial anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Just started back up and got a flamethrower!

Saw that in Jill's credits and thought it might be a new game plus sort of thing like the special weapons in Silent Hill games.

Credits were still kinda bullshit since that was using it against the giant plant which is prior to this.

Lame that you don't get to keep the flamethrower and Chris just doesn't get a different weapon from Jill's bazooka.

In the lab. The sewers were a PAIN IN THE ASS with such limited inventory space, having to carry the crank, the flamethrower, a gun, bullets, ink ribbon, herb, etc. Didn't carry any ink ribbons cause I never do so I died to the stupid spider and had to redo everything. Then I died to a hunter and had to do it again. It's just tedious.

Anyway lab should be cake. Only threat are those ceiling crawlers that still look actually scary. Don't like 'em. What I do like is Chris' little fist pump at the computer screen. Glad they have him and Jill special reactions.

Saving Chris and Jill is completely optional. There are eight endings in the game. Best ending is saving Barry/Rebecca and Chris/Jill, the former of which helps blow up the mansion. Second is saving Barry/Rebecca and leaving Chris/Jill, the former again blowing up the mansion. Third is saving Chris/Jill but letting Barry/Rebecca die, leaving the mansion intact along with the zombies and the Tyrant. Obvious worst is letting everyone except you die, leaving the mansion intact along with the zombies and the TSyrant.

And yeah, the canon ending isn't even one you can get. All four survive, but I don't think they've done much with either Barry (Rebecca at least got a spot in RE6).

Never played RE2 myself, but I believe it has more replayability. You play both characters in the story, but I think the story is different depending on which one you play first.

Barry has a brief cameo in RE3 and is a main character in REvalations 2.

As far as RE2 goes, the storylines are basically the same. The main difference is that starting with Claire first gives you an extra quest to complete in the lab involving the girl Sherry. Starting with Leon skips it.
