And they attributed getting grounded and gritty with Austin Powers being too goofy.

Then they ripped off the goofiest plot point.

What's wrong with Spectre's warm liquid goo phase? Pretty standard nowadays.

M sends Bond on a mission from beyond the grave to stop Spectre, which is an organization that is gaining control of every intelligence agency in the world. They are also obsessed with causing Bond as much grief in his life as possible because their leader Blofeld is his foster brother and he is upset that his dad taught Bond how to ski.

How is that a rip-off of Austin Powers other than Blofeld and Dr. Evil being the brothers of the respective protagonists?

I mean it was definitely dumb, just not seeing what this has to do with Austin Powers.

That's exactly it.

It's the main twist of both films...

The scene where Bond broke out of the villain's lair and went about murdering Blofeld's henchmen with long range shots left and right without breaking a sweat was the biggest badass moment of the series, calling it now.

I hated that so much. I remember before it came out there was all those Sony leaks. I heard about the twist beforehand I thought "No, that sounds way too stupid. No way they would do that. This can't be real".

And they did it. I despise the movie cause that is so stupid and so cliche even for a Bond movie. What a fucking waste of the return of Blofeld and SPECTRE and what a waste of Christoph Waltz.

Honestly it seemed too easy after just getting tortured.

That felt like Craig not wanting to do another action scene.

I honestly don't even remember this scene. There are worse Bond films for sure (though not many), but I don't think any of them are as forgettable as Spectre was.

everything after the torture thing designed to erase bond's memories or whatever seemed too convenient and cheesey. the device doesn't work somehow, then after escaping it's like he has god mode on with auto-aim. he's being fired upon then just turns around and snipes a dude with an SMG one handed

Those kind of antics are surely your typical blockbuster action hero bullshit nonsense, though... Unfortunately.

That's the thing tho they made such a big deal about making bond grounded and boring then throw that shit in in the worst way possible

They might as well have made Roger Moore's corpse animatronic and radio-controlled it to make him perform as Bond instead of Craig.

The producers behind the Bond series really can't figure out what they want to do it seems. They wanted to have the series be a gritty reboot, but then you have some of the goofy old school kind of stuff in there too.

Then a big idea behind Skyfall and Spectre was that Bond and MI6 are old and outdated, which is odd considering Bond is supposed to be a relatively new 00 agent in this rebooted series.

The best thing they can do is cancel this reboot series and go back to the old, loose continuity.

I wouldn't be opposed to them returning to Cold War era Bond. I mean there's few media these days that deal with the Cold War. Modern Bond worked a bit, but I don't think Bond necessarily has to reflect our current time period.

Bond already killed Blofeld in Diamonds Are Forever. And that was almost 50 years ago.

So when I watched all the Bond movies in order, I got really confused. They don't really tie together anymore.

Well the Craig movies are a separate continuity. Still, there was also the beginning of For Your Eyes Only where Blofeld gets dropped down a chimney.
