So long as no Republicans defect, yes.

The US has a Supreme Court with a certain number of sitting justices, who basically rule at the highest point how to understand the law.

One of the Justices retired, and so a new one had to be put on the bench.

The President decides on one to be looked at, and different branches of the government then vote to decide if they should be allowed on.

Kavanaugh was the man decided by Trump to be considered. Since the Republicans hold a majority of the power, it was seen as a slam dunk (Kavanaugh is seen as a more Right Wing judge, Republicans represent the right wing)

Then there were allegations (now very public) of sexual assaults that Kavanaugh was involved in as a young man. These allegations were taken to a Senate hearing to see if anything should pause the vote to see if he gets in.

There are two stages to voting, on is the judiciary committee to approve his nomination, then a full Senate vote to install. Margins right now are such that if even 3 Republicans vote no he won't be appointed. He probably will be, politics in this country have been a shit show since at least the mid 80s

You aren't a real politician in America until you have multiple scandals and investigations right before people vote.

I *think* he sexually assaulted someone years ago, but I'm not 100% sure. It's basically the Bill Cosby thing but with a politician and not some comedian...But what's the difference anyway..

Also, and this is important, the guy the president has chosen thinks that the president (in general) should be above the law in some cases.

The current president of the United States is embattled with some legal troubles that are taking some time to sort out.

If they can railroad Kavanaugh through, it's very, VERY likely you'll see immumity given to the POTUS, which is a fucking scary thing.

That's why they won't back down and pick someone else. He's their boy.

Also, it's worth mentioning that, constitutionally speaking, the Supreme Court has no fixed number of justices. It's just that 9 became the generally-accepted number. FDR tried to increase the number after the Court stuck down a lot of his New Deal attempts at assuaging the Depression, but even his own party balked at the idea.

Pretty much. I feel any time a republican is going to get a big government position we will start seeing stuff like this pop up where several women just start speaking up after nothing for decades.
