I don't know about most fascinating, but I find the Iraq-Iran war to be an interesting conflict.
It's like if you took WW1 and put in the 1980s in a desert. Conventional warfare lead to a stalemate. This lead to trench warfare. Human waves were utilized. Poisonous gas saw some use. Vietnam war. Did a play of it back in 6th grade. Pretty dark how us little 6th graders was able to wield cardboard assault rifles, machetes and making enemy plane noises. Also, my friend played a prisoner of war and no it was not an American prisoner no no no. But yeah, never learned about it back in all my school years.
