This character is suppose to be older then Superman, classy, and a person who has a sense of presence when they enter the room not be seen as the special needs person. Lex in STAS, JL/JLU (DCAU), and Smallville are examples of how he is suppose to be. It was an edgy choice by Synder to have the scientist Lex instead of the scheming business man.
