and are any of em not worth watching? I feel like starting a show that's already finished and all of these are

Mad Men
Six Feet Under
The Americans
The Leftovers
The Shield

I know very little about the shows other than the general idea

I very much enjoyed Mad Men, but don't go into it expecting a great deal of action.

Mad Men - watched the first three seasons. Bought them on DVD. Solid.
Six Feet Under - watched the whole thing. Except the last episode. Still haven't watched it a decade later. Tough to watch, but some of the best television.
The Americans - never saw it
The Leftovers - watched season 1. Again, it's thick. Like the emotional equivalent of a shot of jagermeister.
The Shield - no experience.

I'm pretty much trying to gauge which to start first, cause I intend to watch all of em eventually unless like all of CE shows up and says one or more of them are shit

I liked The Leftovers. It's also one of the shorter ones on the list. I got to like S3 of mad men but gave up for some reason. The Americans first season was solid, not sure why I gave up on that one either. No experience with the other two.

Mad men is great. It's a different kind of show though. Well worth the watch.

Six feet under is alright. Not a waste of time but not something you HAVE to see IMO.

The Leftovers is top three in anything I've ever seen IMO. It's a show unlike anything else and while it goes over the head for most people at times it ties itself nicely at the finale and is a hell of a ride all the way through. First seasons prob my favorite but I'm in a minority there. Highly recommend.

The shield is really good too. Not sure how it aged but if you like topics like the Rampart division (of which it was based on) you'll enjoy it. Good ride.

The Americans I can't comment on cause I'm only a little over halfway through. I enjoy it so far though and would prob rank it second on that list unless it butchers the last half/ending.

Mad Men is awesome if youre into slow paced drama. It gets worse after the first three seasons but is still worthwhile after. Just realize its not crime oriented at all.

might do leftovers first since it is in fact the shortest of the bunch. I know mad men and the shield get praised a lot. six feet under too I guess. these are all shows that were recommended years ago and I never got around to watching. I know the leftovers and the americans ended more recently

well the leftovers is the shortest. The first season is ok but it gets better in season 2/3. My favourite on that list is mad men it's a bit of a slow burn. Personally I'd watch a couple at a time but if you want to stick with one I'd go the leftovers

I'll start with the leftovers and probably leave six feet under for last. mad men sounds like it'll be best accompanied with one of the other shows. thanks guys

mad men is great for its execution. cinematography, writing, acting. it's a wonderfully done piece of art.

the shield is great but it's grittier, less sophisticated, yet it all works. the acting is good but isn't necessarily the best, but the story progression and the plot is really well made.
