Yeah, $20/hr is roughly $40k per year (assuming no overtime). It's a good, but certainly not great, salary.

You can live fairly comfortably on $40k if you live in a low-cost-of-living area and/or you aren't married with kids.

Yeah, it wasn't that long ago that I was happy going from $8 to $8.10 to $9; $10.75 seemed like really good money and $14.00 we're making currently is like a whole new world to me.

Health insurance sales over the phone. I'm employed by TTEC and work for United Healthcare, if that makes sense.

Getting the job was a little nutty, I think it's worth mentioning.

i quit my job at 12/hr to go back to school and when i'm done min wage will be 13.50 and then 15.00 the next year
so the reward will be minimal the first few years If I can even make it into my career at all

Yeah, it's not bad. The best thing is that it feels right for me and that I can do it.

But it is sales, so there's both good and bad aspects of it. There will always be pressure from the company above us, for example, even in situations where there's nothing where we can really do.

It would be nice if at least on PotD people stated which currency.

I'm at CAD $18 at my current job. It goes up $1.50 every three months until it hits $23. Then when I go to nights I'll get another dollar.

I was making $25 before with 2-4 hours OT every day. Weekends were straight OT. $450/day and we only worked half-time, paid for full. Great gig it was.

$20/hr is $38,5 gross. After taxes you're looking at probably $33,000 (depending, my government was taking almost 50% of my wage when I was making $25/hr).

And I owned a brand new Silverado and had my own basement when I was making $15/hr. At $20, I could have financed a low-end Corvette probably.

It makes a huge difference depending on how smart you are with your finances. If you arent making monthly payments on a ton of shit 40k can go a long way

The most I ever made as an employee was $23.00 an hour, plus incentives.

Left that job for a commission paid job, finally hit over 6 figures in my life.

Left that job after 3 years to start up my own company in December last year. Being a one person business owner is the happiest I've ever been in my life. Stressful on some days, but I can never go back to being an employee. I'm on track to barelllllly hit $200,000 in sales by end of year if work stays steady like it has been going last 4 months.

I just turned 31 last month, no real debt besides the house right now. Very fortunate to be in the position I'm at now due to all the hard work in my 20's and overtime I took from other co-workers who didn't want it at the time.

52-56k is a lot more than 40k...

If you're on salary, then you are exempt from overtime laws too. I am on salary, and I don't get paid any extra for working overtime. I get paid exactly the same no matter if I work 30 hours, 40 hours, or 50 hours.

IDK in what "kids-world" you live, but $20 an hour is a lot of money when you take into consideration most people don't even break 30k a year.

it's not a lot of money it's just barely livable

12$ an hour is a life time of debt, 20$/hour is like a few zeros in your bank account

two years from now it'll be 17$ that is a life time of debt and 30$ as a few zeros

This is false. The median salary in Q4 2017 was $44k.

https://www.thebalancecareers.com/average-salary-information-for-us-workers-2060808

The median means that half the US population makes more than $44k and half makes less than $44k.

People making $30k or less are minimum wage workers in the retail/restaurant sectors. Those may be big job markets, but they're not the majority of workers in the US.
