. I can't imagine spending more than a few thousand on a wedding. Even on a honeymoon.

And then the ring.

How are ways people do it cheap?

You can go to a distributor for rings and cut like 60% off the price versus regular jewelry stores. Even more if you get the ring and diamond separately and have someone set them.

In terms of the actual wedding, I've had some friends do "barn weddings" where they made all the decorations and set everything up themselves and that brought the cost waaaay down because those places just charge to rent the location for a day, not per-head like a reception hall. Doubly so if you do a buffet or have an "open bar" you stock yourself.

The honeymoon is just a vacation... budget accordingly and you'd be fine.

Avoid saying you buying stuff for a wedding. Business will jack up the price on you if they know it's for a wedding.

It is a once-in-a-lifetime occurance, and a sacred bond, a Covenant before G.od with your loved one, you SHOULD be able, at least THAT ONCE in your lifetime, cough up some dough and stop being such a tight arse scrooge.

Unless of course you're a heathen planning to divorce and marry more than once, in which case, well, if you choose eternal damnation, I cannot help you with that :(

Family made food.

It was a church we attended so we didn't need to pay the cost of using the space. The pastor was her youth pastor from about a decade ago who did not charge anything.

One gift was someone paying for the cake. Someone else paid for a DJ when they realized we were going to hook an iPod to a speaker.

Our rings were about $125 each, I paid about $300 for the engagement ring.

Our biggest cost was her dress which was $500 and the $3000 we spent on the honeymoon.

My wedding and rings cost ~$1500 dollars and it could have been even cheaper.

Cost $100ish for marriage license and certificate
Gave a church $200 donation
Spent like $300 on food and had party at my house

The biggest expense was my wifes ring which cost like 800$. Its nothing crazy and she doesnt wear her ring anyway so I could have probably gotten an even cheaper one. My ring cost like 30$ on amazon and I dont wear it either

Oh yeah her dress was like 80 dollars from a thrift store
You need to find a really good girl and who cares more about saving money than showing off for it to be cheap.

Wht waste money that can be spent on future investments, like house, stock, emergency savings, etc for a 1 day of a lifetime commitment.

Doesnt make sense at all

You can register online to officiate for $30. I'm doing it for my sister-in-law's wedding. They're not religious and are getting married in a converted carriage house. I think they're spending a few thousand on food and a DJ but that's basically it. Besides the dress/ring obviously.

Yeah our wedding with honeymoon ended up probably costing around 20 grand. However we had specifically saved for it and did not go into any debt to pay for any of it, so that's good.

Imagine talking about having a frugal wedding, but admitting you spent hundreds, if not thousands on blood diamonds. The diamond industry is a scam, and you fell for it hook, line, and sinker. Cubic zirconia is inexpensive and cruelty-free.

I think total expenses for mine was under $12k. We spent about $9k of it ourselves got probably $5k back in cash gifts. It was a beautiful wedding at our dream venue. Paid entirely upfront, no debt.

never understood it, take that money you'd blow on a wedding and use it for a nice honeymoon or better yet a downpayment on a house.

My sister and her fiance paid like 100 bucks in total for their rings.

Weddings are only expensive if you want them to be. I personally dont see the point

The average Nigerian wedding has 350-500 guests, but sometimes well over a thousand. That's because the invitation's usually an open one -- anyone can tag along to the party. Imagine having to cater for all those freeloading bastards.

It's even more crazy when you realize the divorce rate is 51% these days. You don't even have half a chance of making it. All that money down the toilet. Some people get divorced and are still paying off the wedding. Crazy.

Hopefully my parents don't push me for a Nigerian wedding. I think my brother did a destination wedding partly to avoid something like that.
