Jurassic Park was the final NES game in the US to be based up on a movie. It's pretty decent. The game has a top-down perspective and you go around shooting raptors, spitters, and compies. It has some odd color choices, and could've used another boss fight, but I have no real complaints.

The Super NES version is another top-down perspective, but your gun is replace by a lame electricity gun and the graphics on Dr. Grant are just ridiculous. It's also plagued with the worst first-person shooting segments I've seen. But the absolute worst part is just how ridiculously overpowered the raptors are. They can swipe a third of your life away in an instant and you're ill-equipped to fight them. It's like survival horror, but not as fun.

Now the Sega Genesis version is a side scroller. You can play as Dr. Grant or the velociraptor. The graphics are nice, and the presentation is decent, but the controls are incredibly stiff. And the raptor path, while more fun to play, leads up to the worst final boss fight I've ever played.

It's funny that, of the three games, the one with the greatest console limitations would be the most fun to play. I guess it was probably easier to design third party games for an 8-bit console as opposed to a 16-bit one as they didn't have to focus as much on the graphics.

I didn't like the NES one at all, and I never played the Genesis one (although I currently have a copy sitting on my entertainment center for some reason.) I played a lot of the SNES one, and I thought it was a cool game. It was open world before open world was a thing, and while the first-person sections did not age well, they were incredibly tense back when the game came out. That scary ass music, limited battery life for your night vision, and no map made those parts pretty damn scary.

The game's biggest flaw was that it had no save or password system. It was a long game that you had to beat in one sitting. I did it once.

I haven't played those ones. I was just doing a bit of a retro respective. Come to think of it, I have a PS2. If it's not ridiculously expensive, I should get a copy of the PS1 Jurassic Park.

I definitely think the NES one is something of an overlooked late gem for the system.

I LOVED Jurassic Park 2 on the SNES. It's completely different from the first one. It's basically like a side-scroller Contra shooter basically. The music is awesome, it has voice-acting on a SNES cart lol, and the levels look beautiful. My only complaints are that it's hard as fuck at times (and you need to play Hard Mode to see all the levels), no save/password system, and couple stages are basically labyrinths with what doors you gotta go through as such. But otherwise it's really fun and I recommend it >_>

One thing I have to point out is there's an odd continuity between the games.

Any time the tyrannosaurus eats Dr. Grant, his hat floats down. And the Sega and SNES versions both have the electricity gun and darts. That tells me that some of the same people worked on the games or else the studio had a specific vision for how the properties should be handled. I remember the movie had action figures back in the day. I wonder if Dr. Grant's toy had an electricity gun.

The NES game was probably the first one to go into production and they had decided by the time the 16-bit games came out that Dr. Grant should shock or tranquilize the dinosaurs rather than killing them.

Jurassic Park Rampage Edition was fucking great.

There's also that JP shooter game you could only play in arcades. That was awesome too.

In Jurassic Park 2 on the SNES, you get 7 weapons to use. 4 of them are tranquilizer weapons and 3 of them are lethal weapons. You can use lethal weapons to kill both people and dinosaurs (though you get penalized if you kill anything but raptors) But they range from a shotgun, a machine gun, a gas bazooka, an electric charge beam

Grant is a fucking killing machine in that game lol
