Yes it was. They put in lots of effects and features that looked cool, but the memory and processor usage was so high that even high-end computers at the time couldn't run it very well. I bought a cheap Vista laptop because mine gave out about six months after Vista came out and I couldn't find one with XP on it. So I brought it home, it ran terrible, and I found that IT HAD LESS THAN WHAT WAS POSTED AS THE REQUIRED MEMORY TO RUN VISTA AT THE DEFAULT SETTINGS. That's right, it was unable to run its own operating system at the default settings. I basically wound up turning all the graphical features off, turning the settings down as far as possible, and buying an extra gig of memory. This is just so I could use it for word processing and web browsing.

Windows 10 is also bloated but not as bad as Vista. They also keep posting updates that are not optional, and make it worse. Even if it's only a little bit, having your computer suddenly get slower and more prone to crashing is super annoying.

The hate for Windows 8 was justified based on the original release, but it got better over time. The look wasn't very good, and when it first released its interface was poor for desktop users. However it gradually got better over time and basically became Windows 7 but able to run high-end programs better. Unless you were dumb enough to buy a tablet, because those were always terrible.

So yeah, the hate for newer systems may not be totally justified but Vista really was terrible.

marth doesn't understand a whole lot about computing and operating systems so don't take his opinons on the matter very seriously.

Vista, windows 8, and windows 10 are all trash. vista and 8 did get better, but not until much later. Windows 10 has the potential to be good if they do things like fix updates, get rid of adware/bloatware pre-installed onto the operating system, etc

it has nothing to do with UAC, which is what a properly configured computer is supposed to have. linux or windows.

Vista felt like the last OS made for people who knew what they were doing with a PC. It just needed wider driver support.

I never had much of an issue with Vista, but that was probably because I didn't get it until there had been a couple of service packs and the major problems had been fixed.
