They are ineffective anyway

Working workers to death doesn't mean more productivity.

Rested and well-treated workers give the best results.

Yes, because you have to realize one thing, what you call 'sweatshop', other people call 'job'. They can't get better and they are grateful to have it.

From an ethical standpoint no.

From an "I can get cheap shit from overseas and not have to worry about that kind of abuse here" standpoint yes

What about corporations that use it to exploit child labor and these children are pretty much forced to work there

Not really but define "OK". Like I try not to buy products from known offenders but I'm not an activist or anything.

Countries with "sweatshops" are actually economically developing quite rapidly. Countries don't suddenly become wealthy countries overnight by adopting Norway's level of minimum wage and labor laws, contrary to what some people believe. It's like a ladder and they have to climb up each rung one at a time. If we prevent these countries from using their lower labor costs to bid for international investment, we prevent them from ever climbing the ladder of economic development in the first place.

I will end by leaving this graph of the per capita GDP, adjusted for inflation, of two countries associated with sweatshops: Pakistan and Bangladesh. Both have increased dramatically since the 1980s, and they are still headed upwards.
