Contrary to the narrative in some circles that Star Wars: The Last Jedi permanently and irrevocably destroyed the Star Wars franchise, the films Blu-ray, released about four months ago, is already a hot seller. In fact, its the best-selling Blu-ray of 2018 to date, according to The Numbers. And everything else in the top 10 is way behind. Here are their current sales:

1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 3.01 million units sold
2. Black Panther - 2.62 million
3. Thor: Ragnarok - 2.34 million
4. Coco - 2.25 million
5. The Greatest Showman - 1.75 million
6. Justice League - 1.54 million
7. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle - 1.38 million
8. It - 921,473
9. Blade Runner 2049 - 827,421
10. Ferdinand - 688,996

This also means that Disney has all four of the top selling Blu-rays of the year; The Last Jedi, Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, and Coco. Thats pretty darn good.

Let's compare that to TFA, since the argument has always been that it damaged the franchise relative to past performances which would be apparently in the numbers. For example, TFA did better in the box office than TLJ, and Rogue One did better than Solo, showing a clear downward trend in profitability across mainline AND spinoff titles.

Looking at the first 3 weeks sales, TLJ suffered a difference of 2,168,918 units between The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi by the 3rd week in release. Thats a $57,512,212 difference in sales between the two in the 3rd week.

So yea, even if it's topping the charts for 2018, it's still objectively doing FAR WORSE than TFA did in the first month. I don't have the full year-end TFA numbers in terms of blu-ray sales, but assuming a linear trend, I would expect the gap to continue to grow.
