Moose are semi aquatic. That's like a beaver drowning. Was it hurt or something?

Fake news

Edit : "4 to 5 foot swells"

Oh I guess that'd do it

The article says it swam a great distance before the photos were taken, but then drowned when it went back in the lake briefly to get away from the picture takers? Is there more to the story?

The moose swam across Lake Champlain from New York to South Hero, Vermont, on Saturday, according to the officials. After the animal made it to shore, onlookers started taking pictures of it. Likely spooked and threatened, it went back into the water, where it became exhausted and then drowned.

That is a lot of swimming.

there's a reason people don't approach wild animal. especially if it startles easily.
unless it's an encounter with silverback gorilla's supposed to enjoy the experience, don't make a sound and keep head down.

My uncle was fishing in a canoe in Newfoundland. Now, what he did is pretty illegal but he did have a tag and it was moose season. Anyways, he saw a huge cow (female moose) out for a swim in the middle of the lake, he rowed up next to the moose, grabbed her by the ear and slit her throat.

Was one of the best steaks I ever ate tbh.

They more usually trample. Moose kill by stomping on you. They are much bigger than most people who never see them in real life realize. And very strong. If a moose ever knocks you down, stay down. A man in Alaska once panicked and kept trying to get back up and the moose kept knocking him down and rhen stomping and he died. If you just stay down they will walk away

But best to just stay away so it doesn't happen. See a moose? Keep your distance
