And even then, he was supposed to be "one of the good ones". it's not just their skin. dark elves also live underground. so it's surface vs underground. but there is a reason for the split. they explained it in one of the DnD novels that was a history of the elven race. and in that book, the goddess that dark elves worship used to be the wife of the creator of the elven race. but she betrayed her husband and family and then got cursed and banished. then she made her own race, the dark elves. also her son was part of the betrayel too so he got banished and he's part of the pantheon of dark elves. finally, his sister volunteered to be go too for some reason I can't remember. she was actually on her father's side but for some reason she decides to leave with her mom and brother. but she's not worshipped by most dark elves and is considered by them to be a heretic diety. only worshipped by good dark elves, usually ones that live in the forest on the surface.
