Heard about it for a long time, decided to see it on my friend's Netflix since it was on his rec list from Netflix.

From the very beginning I could see that it was incredibly funny, and very tongue-in-cheek about its spanish soap opera influences/homages (which are apparently called telenovelas)

ALso jesus fuck petra is... holy fuck she's too hot what even is this?

Like, I just don't understand how the characters don't acknowledge it, even with the fact that everyone on the show is hot. But she is hot like Mockingbird from Agents of Shield is hot, the kind of hot blonde that makes you go "Oh my god" every time she appears on screen.

Also the color palette for the show is absolutely lovely. Plus it's shot like a soap opera but also not? Very unique camera work, and just really enjoyable. I have to say I used to mock CW but between this and iZombie (and the fact that I actually don't consider their shows to be bad, just not for my demographic) I'm starting to wonder whether or not they should be considered one of the better networks on tv.

I definitely think more people should watch this show.

Jane is hilarious and just something about her is really alluring. Her mother is sexy and funny. While her grandmother believes in stupid religion shit and is annoying about it, that's part of the character and the show makes it fun so no complaints there (for the most part)

I like Michael, I like Rafael, I like the supporting cast, and I really like Petra. Like good god do I like her. Even when she does nasty shit, I don't even care I just root for her so much.

Do you watch the CW DC shows?

Anyway, you convinced me to give Jane the Virgin a try.

Wife got me into the show. Very surprised how clever the writing is.

Another underrated CW show is Crazy Ex Girlfriend. Not as good as Jane but has some good ideas in it.

I'm only barely into superhero shows so not really. I do remember watching The Flash on an airplane a few years back and thinking "huh, I kinda like this. If it wasn't tied into that stupid arrow show's universe I'd probably give it a complete watch" .

But Jane the Virgin so far is definitely likable. 17 episodes in and once I finish the first season I'll have an overall impression ready.

That, Crazy Ex, and iZombie are arguably the best shows on the CW right now.

It kind of sucks that they're all ending this year, but at least it's on their own terms.

Going into that show I thought it was going to be another sort of half-hour "New Girl" type of sitcom. I'm pleasantly surprised that it was something COMPLETELY different from what I was expecting. The writing is so good, the plot is insane, and the characters are all completely likeable, even when you're not supposed to like them.

Is crazy ex really on the level of these other 2? I keep imagining this stupid movie with luke wilson and uma thurman every time I hear the name. On the other hand I do know better than to judge a show by its title after having watched Selfie (and most of ABC's shows)

I would say so, yes. The whole premise of the show is pretty much lampshading and subverting the "crazy ex" trope.

It is incredibly intelligent in how it portrays the lead's obsession and deals with some serious issues in a lighthearted way (without diluting the seriousness of the issue).

Like Jane the Virgin, it is very self aware of what it is perceived to be.
