You're walking along one day when suddenly you come across a big blue car. At first you make nothing of it until you hear panting noises coming from the car and investigate to discover there is a dog inside lying on the backseat and panting.

There is also a SIG P239 and some ammo in a concealed carry bag on the front seat. The car windows are closed.

You look around and there are no other humans for miles. It's very hot and you forgot to charge your phone so it has died.

Having actually been in this situation before (aside from the dead phone+ no one's around + obvious gun parts), on both sides of it:

I'd stay close by, try to interact with the dog, and use anything I had on hand to cover the windows of the car to minimize the internal heating. I'd wait about 1-2 minutes for the owner to return. After that, or if during that time the dog lays down, I'd break a window to let the animal out and pour water on them and wait for owner to return. If owner returned, I'd pay for his window. If not, I'd take the dog to a rescue and leave a note. If the dog's chipped, owner would be able to recover them.

When this happened to my dogs, it was an old car without automatic locks. I dropped the keys in the trunk when I was letting them in through it, but was able to get a friend who lived nearby to bring tools to break into my trunk and get them out. I recognize the possibility that the owner in question might have been running off to get tools to do the same.

When I found someone else's dogs in this situation, the owner returned before I had to do anything, and actually was not at all put off that a stranger was set up around their car ready to break in to protect their dogs. They didn't apologize, but I wasn't treated like some sort of nutjob either.

I wait for about 5 minutes next to the car and if I don't see the owner I break the window to let the dog out.

That experience motivated me to sell that car and buy one with automatic locks. Never was willing to risk the situation happening again. We had our insurance coming with tools to break in as well, but it was very harrowing.

If it's a small parking lot with a regular convience store and the dog didn't look uncomfortable, I'd leave it alone.

But if it were a large parking lot outside a large grocery store and the dog looked uncomfortable, I'd probably break the glass.

Call the cops about the unsecured firearm tbh. They probably won't respond quickly about the dog, but would definitely do so about the firearm. I'd take down the licence plate, and if I don't have a phone charger/station nearby, I'd go into a local business to ask to use their phone instead sentret

Depending on the state, leaving a firearm in your car is nothing.

If it's hot, car is off and windows up, call 911 not non emergency. Especially out here it's considered a high priority call. Then usually animal control will show up and help

Are you Killer Croc?

no, why

It was a running gag in the Batman Cartoon that Killer Croc was obsessed with throwing rocks.

In one episode a bunch of villains are exchanging intricate stories told in flashbacks about how they almost killed Batman. When Croc simply says "I THREW A ROCK AT 'IM!" (well actually Batman in disguise but no one seems to have actually watched the episode, just this single scene) then when everyone gives him a "WTF" look, he goes ".... It was a big rock."

Then in another episode when a bunch of villains are discussing how to punish Batman, Croc yells "THROW A ROCK AT 'IM!"

And sure enough in another episode, when Batman is KOed on the floor, Croc throws a rock at him.

It was kinda like a Meme before Memes existed.

As I am obviously a superhuman to hear a dog panting through closed car windows, I open the car doors by sheer willpower to let the doggie out.

Then blow up the car for good measure.

I'll wait for about five to ten minutes for the owner to show up before smashing the window open and letting the dog. If the dog lays down or appears to faint or something during the wait time then not only am I smashing sooner but I'm also taking said dog with me.

Bust the window, unlock the door, take the dog. If you're that irresponsible you don't deserve a car. Or a dog. If they reported it to the police they'd just get themselves in trouble.
