If I were to ever abandon my core beliefs and decide to run for any sort of public office, this would be the number one item I would push.

Such a disrespect for the flow of traffic.

It generally is. You see signs that say no trucks in left lane.

Left exits should be banned from interstates and other similar roads.

Around here there's drivers who think that because they are driving 'through' our city on the freeway, that they're supposed to just stay in the left lane the entire time they pass through...and semi truck or not, a lot of those drivers go really slow. When you honk at them they throw their hands up like "I'm not doing anything wrong!"....meanwhile car after car after car is passing them on the right lane which should never happen.

You're right, that happens here as well. I would also require signs every half a mile stating that the left-most lane is for passing, not cruising.

I'll never understand how people would rather get super pissed about everything in the world than just make all lanes equal.

If a road has multiple lanes, it's mostly overpasses and underpasses for left exits in Europe.

TC would love Germany. Not only are they real sticklers for maintaining the passing lane, they actually have a law prohibiting semis from being on the highway at all from Friday night to Monday morning. Every weekend you can see every truck stop jam-packed with semis ready to camp out for the weekend.

And a pleasant side effect of this is that all the truckstop bathrooms are super well-maintained.

what is the purpose of this? I can only think of it reducing traffic in times of heavy road use, but here traffic flow is much better on the weekends.

Here in Alabama, it's equally legal to pass or cruise in any lane, and we have basically none of the problems the weekly left lane CE topic complains about.

We do have the occasional 2-4 slowpokes driving side-by-side problem but more often the only traffic problem is just that it's rush hour and the 2-4 slowpokes are each in a line that extends all the way to downtown/the next exit/etc, which as far as I can tell would actually be worse if you were only allowed to pass in certain lanes, as evidenced by this topic.

In NE Ohio they're pretty common and they suuuck. Not just because of trucks hogging the left lane but when I'm coming up to an exit that I'm getting off at I'm definitely not speeding and the person behind me probably gets pissed because I'm usually just coasting right before the exit

I have absolutely no data to back me up, but I would bet our average mph flow of traffic is higher than yours.

Also passing on the right is dangerous. In a lot of states it's actually illegal to pass semis on the right, as it's that much harder for them to see you.

The way it was explained to me is that the govt wants to actively encourage people to get out and do stuff, and removing all that commercial traffic from the roads on the weekends does that

I think the reason why semi trucks ride the middle lane through cities is because the interstates often are designed to throw up exit only lanes on the right with what equates to no advanced signage warning in what sometimes can be blind curves, meaning these big ass trucks have to get over right away. Obviously this leads to problems because the truck will either have to come to a dead stop to wait to merge (extremely dangerous) or hope that everyone scatters out of the middle lane for them during rush hour traffic.

Almost all us cities have signage and laws preventing semi trucks from using the left-most lane barring a left exit.

On long stretches with nothing around I think it's most annoying when 2 semi trucks pass each other with only a 1mph difference. I think that should be considered impeding traffic and a ticketed offense.

I live in the Akron area so that might be why. Can't really think of too many examples in Cleveland, although I usually only go there a few times a month. The worst ones are where 77 and 76 meet, I have to use that everyday that I go to work

Middle lane is fine. When there's three or more lanes, the right most lane is for getting on and off, middle lane(s) is for long distances and left lane is for passing slow vehicles in the middle.
