I've been seeing a lot lately that if you "gift" money instead of tip it, the server doesn't have to report it as income.
I know gifts don't have to be reported, but it seems the gift only occurred in response to a service being performed, so it is compensation regardless of what you call it. This always comes from libertarian types tho so of course they're likely wrong. --- Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Never heard of this method, but I know when I was a server, I appreciated cash tips on credit purchases as I didnt have to report those.
