I went from episode 7 to 8 except episode 7 was actually 6, it's just the thing I was watching it on decided to insert the first ova between 4 and 5 since that is where it is chronologically, and thus made it episode 5. That's fine, makes sense, also explains why episode 5 felt so fan-servicey, and felt out of place, definitely with the episode right after. OVA's just decided that they have to be as dumb as possible, whatever, it's fine. The thing is, they decided episode 8 would actually be episode 8, meaning they skipped episode 7 entirely, and a good few minutes into episode 8, I was like "why the hell does it feel like I'm missing something" and that's when I discovered it's because episode 7 was skipped. I looked around for the missing episode, but it seems they decided to completely forget about it, so now I have to look for episode 7 elsewhere. I watched the prologue episode before I watched the series finale because screw having prologues as the last thing I watch about a show. Also, I'm doubling down on my assertion that OVA's are just meant to be the dumbest things ever, that spa episode was just dumb and really decided to flanderize every character to the extreme, and was so inconsistent with the rest of the series in both tone and story that it was honestly just flat out stupid. Prologue wasn't too bad in terms of both those things, sure, there was some flanderization, but not to that much of an extent. My only problem was that it felt a little pointless, I didn't really need a backstory about why Yorito decided to take a picture of the sunrise, it's honestly just acceptable to believe he would do so without needing external motivation to do so. Whatever, it basically felt like an extended pilot with a few callbacks to certain parts of the show. At least it wasn't as dumb as the first ova. I will just ignore those 2 episodes in judgement of the rest of the series since they were just separate, and I can just choose to ignore them since they aren't part of the main show anyways, just extra fun for the fans who just needed more Sola at the time I suppose. So, let's get onto my thoughts of the actual show, don't know if it will be short, long, or in-between, guess we'll all find out in a moment if you are reading it or in not a moment if you are me who is the one writing this. As a whole, the show was fine. After I finished, I decided to check out some more stuff, and saw that it won a voter's choice for 2007 anime of the year, which is whatever, I don't know what came out that year, so maybe it deserves it. I noticed a lot of complaints were that it was slow in the beginning, but honestly I don't mind. I appreciate those early "slice-of-life" episodes, they are always relaxing for me to watch, and I like the tiny aspects of life that are often forgotten about. It was a little weird to see how accepting Mana was of everything, but whatever, they even bring this up later, so I guess I'll forgive it. For the show's characters, a lot of them are whatever. Yorito is your typical "absent-minded yet all the girls love him" character, and I don't really like how Mana was built as the "child-hood" best friend yet they only knew each other for a few months. Sometimes it felt like with her character that they realized she was one of the main-characters and they wanted to find a way to put her in the show to show her relevance, but I'll forgive it because the ending was beautiful and her part was necessary to show Yorito's impact on them at all. The little sister did come across as cute actually, not annoying, which is surprising since little kids, anime or not, are always annoying to me. The friends are lame side-characters that the OVA tried to create some personality in, but went off the deep-end. Aono and Mayuko are probably the best characters in the show to me. Mayuko's brief backstory was touching, and other than the OVA, they didn't do any unnecessary child-bait stuff with her which I was afraid of them doing. Aono's character progression was great, I could really feel her stability breaking down more and more as the show went on. Her story from the beginning to the end tugged at my heart-strings, and the ending with her was beautiful. Even though she didn't get her happy ending, at least she found something to be content with, the 2nd best scenario only under having a joyful life. To wrap up due to character limits, the anime was fine. The ending made me feel feelings which is all I can ever ask for. Some will say the beginning is slow, but I don't mind the nature of it. The OVA's are stupid.
